Biography

Born on 4th of March in Moldova, Catalin Josan has graduated the piano class of the music high school “Ciprian Porumbescu” in Chisinau. He taught how to play the guitar all by himself. At this moment he is student in the second year at the Music, Theatre and Plastic Arts Academy in Chisinau, classic canto section. He can easily speak and sing in Romanian, English and Russian.

In 2006 Catalin was joining the preselections of Megastar, the biggest music talent contest ever organized in Romania, similar to the UK’s Pop Idol or the international Popstars. His powerful voice, well defined, his naturalness and winner like energetic attitude, have brought him today in front of a reality that he could only dream at a year ago: a contract signed with Universal Music Romania and the release of his debut album, suggestively named Megastart!

Overflowing optimism, his self confidence or sense of humor …those are few of the qualities of the young man that has just met celebrity, but also considers that this would not change him: “I have not changed at all…I am the same Catalin, just that my priorities and program have changed a lot!”, Catalin tells us smiling.

From the moment Catalin won the Megastar contest, his life has changed completely. He became a Universal Music Romania artist; he entered the studio and started the recordings for his debut album, he gave interviews, he met a lot of new people and moved to Bucharest.

Catalin can talk about the work for his album endlessly. He has tried many singles wrote by different composers and producers, he worked side by side with Marius Moga (“half” of Morandi project), the executive producer of his album, and every single day he learnt new things about “the birth” of a good quality music product. He admits that it’s not easy at all: “I learnt that the release of a very good product involves a lot of work with a professional team. We spent lots of days and nights in the studio trying to chose the best songs for this album.”

Maybe the most exciting aspect of the production of this album was the fact that young Catalin has been totally involved in this even from the beginning, participating at interminable discussions about the concept of the album, the songs and the lyrics. Created in the manner of a work shop, the product came to life easily. “I tried to make myself useful every time my opinion was needed and I gave my best in order to have a great product at the end of our work. I think that this is way the album became so interesting. It has a very fresh attitude and I really hope that you will like it.

After a great 2007 year, winning the Megastar and releasing his debut album, at the beginning of 2008 Catalin came in front of a new great success: the qualification fro the 2008 Eurovision, the Romanian semifinals. He was the only artist who was qualified with two different songs in those semifinals, and then in the finals as well. Both songs are on his debut album, coming as a proof for the good quality of this product. This success is even bigger when you realize that Catalin is a debutant on the music market.

Eurovision became the second proof, after Megastar, that Catalin is very loved in Romania and he has lots of fans who voted him every week offering him the possibility to get in the finals of Eurovision with both of the tracks he got into the contest in the first time: Run Away and When We’re Together. His fans sent him a lot of supporting messages during the contest on his personal site (www.catalin.umusic.ro). He decided to enter the finals with only one track, Run Away, which classified Catalin on the third position, an outcome result for him which was forwarded by the success of the track that put him on this position on the major radios in Romania (Radio 21, Kiss FM etc).
