This journal entry is a continuation of a discussion that I am having with a person who has commented on my Spiritual Warfare journal entry.

To provide some background information, I do not agree with Todd Bentley's teachings or the Lakeland revival. Another user saw my comments about Todd Bentley, and this other user strongly supports him and his teachings. We have been commenting back and forth on my journal entry.

However, our discussion has taken us to a place in which I now have to defend myself in regard to my iLike account profile. The subject is that I have a playlist on iTunes, which is on my iLike profile. It is called "CD Against Todd Bentley."

In our discussion I was attempting to provide links so that the other user could listen to the sermons that I used in that playlist, but no matter what I did, last.fm was changing the URL links to the sermons to spam. The only way that I could think of to correct the problem was to start a new journal entry so that I could directly link.

The other user said this:
You have poste on your "ilike" profile - CD against Todd Bentley - it's pharisaic. You affirms you're not against persons - what's that? It's unworthy of a human being and a christian - without question. You're judging - it's not the way of doing like Jesus would do!"

My response:
see, so you were talking about my playlists on iLike. All right....so where do the playlists from iLike come from? They come from my iTunes playlists. I created the playlist called "CD Against Todd Bentley" because there was a lady in the church that I've been going to who was getting caught up in the Lakeland stuff. I downloaded several sermons from my pastors and put them on four different CD's so that I could give the CD's to the lady. She was not there when my pastor preached on Colossians 2.

iLike is very different from last.fm or MySpace. It is not somewhere that I would blog about anything.

"CD against Todd Bentley" is the name of a playlist -- the playlist that contains the sermons that I wanted to give to the lady. My playlists have one or two words, or short phrases so that I can identify what playlist they are. It was not meant to be an attack on Todd Bentley himself. If it would please you, I will change that playlist to say "CD against Todd Bentley's doctrine." It was meant to be a private playlist, for my own private use, so that I would have the sermons all on one playlist.

All right....I have added the words "teachings" to the playlist title. Hopefully that playlist will change in iLike as well. It might take a little time for the iLike software to detect this change. But I have officially changed in in iTunes. It will eventually change on iLike as well.

The playlist title was not meant to be seen by anyone except me, and also, I knew what it was for. It was to be used for my own purposes. If you have seen that playlist, then you know the titles of the sermons that are in that playlist:

2.) Small Things Done with a Great God - Rich Nathan
3.) The Holy Spirit and You - Rich Nathan

All the songs that I put on there to fill up the space on the CD's are all focused on Jesus Christ and the gospel, and the supremacy of Christ. This was my intent with the CD's that I made for my friend.

The sermons themselves don't even mention Todd Bentley....but they do refute his doctrine.

As I have said to other people, we actually are called to discernment. Discernment is a kind of judgment -- it's a judgment between what teachings are of God and what are not. We are supposed to do this. Jesus told us to watch out so that no one deceives us. We are told to test everything.

I'm saying this so that you know it's not a hate filled sermon. The reason I wanted to give it to the lady who was being caught up in the Lakeland revival is because of the content of the sermon. In keeping with my belief that the best way to attack false doctrine is by stating the truth, this sermon focuses on the truth of Jesus Christ and who He is.

This past summer my pastor was going through the book of Colossians. This particular sermon happened to be focusing on specific verses that I had been using all summer in order to refute Todd Bentley's teachings. Colossians 2:18-21.
COL 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

COL 2:13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

COL 2:16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. 19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

His entire point throughout the whole sermon is that Jesus Christ is who we should be focusing on....He is Lord. Nothing should take the place of Christ. There can be no substitutes for Christ. This goes against Todd Bentley's teachings and the whole Lakeland revival because Todd Bentley was getting people to take their attention off of Christ. He was trying to "get people to believe in the angel" and he actually had people worship angels......calling them down and glorifying them. He also went on and on about the things that he has seen -- all the encounters he had with angels. Paul says in Colossians 2 that a person that does such things has lost their focus, and is not preaching Christ.

CD 2 - Small Things Done with A Great God, by Rich Nathan
The reason that I included this is because just after I found out about the whole Lakeland revival thing, I decided to go see what Rich Nathan had to say about it, if anything. I wanted to see what he was teaching on. I have been to his church with some of my friends on Saturday nights, and I really respect him and I like what he has to say. It so happened that he was doing a sermon series on healing.

I found that to be rather ironic, since the whole Lakeland revival was about healing and such. So I listened to Rich Nathan's sermon. I listened to both this sermon and The Holy Spirit and You. This explanation will cover both sermons.

Rich never mentioned Todd Bentley by name, and he never mentioned the Lakeland revival by name. What he did say, though, was that God is enough. People don't need to go chasing after the latest fad...."oh, God's really moving in California, we need to go there and get what they have." Rich said, no, God's already moving in Columbus, Ohio. He is enough. We don't need to go chasing after some healing manifestation, or go to some great healer. God uses us. Both of his sermons were about God and God alone. Not about angels and not about manifestations, and not about "getting the anointing."

I included these sermons because of the comments that Rich makes about God being enough, people not needing to go somewhere else, people not needing to go get what some great healer has....and because Rich was dealing with the very same subject that the revival was dealing with -- healing. I was hoping that the lady that I was giving these CD's to would be able to see the difference between what was going on at Lakeland and what Rich was teaching.

2. Creed, Third Day - This is what I call Christian orthodoxy...these are the essentials of the Christian faith. I included it because this is what any revival should be teaching. The main message should be the gospel. That's not what I saw going on in Lakeland.

CD 4 - Do Not Be Deceived, by Nancy Cullen
This sermon was part of a series on the Sermon of the Mount. This was preached in the church that I had been going to at home. I went home for the month of June because I didn't have any classes.

This message was based on Matthew 24. In it, Nancy says that wide is the path that leads to destruction, but narrow is the way. She also says that we can all be deceived. No one wants to be deceived, but yet we have all been deceived at one point or another. Because it speaks about not being deceived, I really got a lot out of this sermon. It was something that was weighing on my heart at the time, and still is.

Little did I know that people at that church were trying to bring in the Todd Bentley stuff. I found this out a couple weeks later, hence my e-mail to Nancy and one of my friends at that church. They really looked into the Lakeland stuff and did research. They decided that it was nothing that they wanted to get involved with. I praise God for that. This sermon actually played an important part in my e-mail to them, and probably their discussion about the topic.

This sermon deals with the very subject that I felt was so strongly part of the Lakeland thing -- deception.

(This is the last one tonight.....I promise. I apologize for sending so many of them today....I just wanted to make sure that I warned everyone on here about Todd Bentley. I consider it to be an extremely important issue.

Ever since I started reading up on some of the "Christian" teachings that are out there, especially in certain Christian circles, it seems obvious that some people, including Todd Bentley have a view of spiritual warfare that is not supported by Scripture.

They seem to think that spiritual warfare is some sort of action that people must engage in, such as praying against demons or demonic powers, making war in the heavens. The first time I saw something like this was when someone on last.fm sent me a couple of links to the Jesus Camp video. I was horrified to learn that this is what some people consider to be Christianity, or a way of living the Christian life. A lot of people who view spiritual warfare this way quote Ephesians 6:10-12 in support of what they do.

Indeed, after the bulletin message that I sent out yesterday entilted "Jesus vs. Todd Bentley" I received a MySpace message from one of my friends, claiming that Todd Bentley's teachings on spiritual warfare are Scriptural....citing those verses in Ephesians.

If this is your view of spiritual warfare, I urge you to to reconsider the traditional teaching on this subject that you have aquired. I know of someone at MTSO who has a viewpoint like this....and she always seems to be so depressed. She feels that she must fight against the spiritual powers, binding spirits, taking authority over everything bad....over sins in other people's lives. In my opinion, to view spiritual warfare this way is unhealthy. It takes the focus off of God, and it causes people to always have to worry about demons and making war against them. Plus, "binding" them and all the prayers that they do do not seem to work. Also, it prevents people from taking responsibility for their sins, and it prevents people from true repentance. Why would you feel that you needed to surrender to God if it was all the devil? If it was only the devil's fault that you sinned? I just don't see how people of this mindset can realize that they are leading a life that is making them turn from God. There would thus be no reason to turn towards God....there would be no agreeing that you are a sinner and you need Him as your Lord and Savior.

I'm not saying that this view of spiritual warfare is heretical....but I think it in itself is a burden to people, and I think that it prevents them from truly being free in Christ and living the life that God intends. I think it does opposite of what their goal in spiritual warfare is. Plus, it gets in the way of the real gospel. Therefore I think it is problematic.....

Here was my response to my friend who sees nothing wrong with Todd Bentley's teaching on spiritual warfare:
I think you were referring to Ephesians 6:10-12....however, in order to properly understand this passage, you have to put it in its full context:

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

14Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.


There is nothing in here about praying against demons or "doing spirtual warfare" as the way that many like Todd Bentley teach it.

Rather, we are to stand in the TRUTH, we are to study God's Word (the Bible), we are to arm ourselves in the truth. We are to stand in the truth of the gospel, in the truth of salvation, in the truth of what Jesus did on the cross on our behalf, and we are to proclaim the gospel to others. Paul himself asked for people to pray for him that he would proclaim the gospel bodly. This is also how the kingdom of God advances....making God known to those that do not yet know Him. This is what TRUE spiritual warfare is all about.

Yes, demons exist, however, let's be conscerned with God's truth.

A friend of mine wrote this in defense of Todd Bentley:
"yes praying agains demons it normal and in fact neccacery... for our war is not aginst flesh and blood but against pricipalitys and powers of the atmousphere"

My response -
Umm...no....praying against demons is not normal, and it is not necessary...not in my Bible.

RO 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."

RO 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

JN 10:25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. sure...we have to be on our guard against false things -- against the lies of Satan, against false teachers, against things that are contrary to God....and yes, Satan and demons exist, but we do not have to fear them. They can not separate us from Jesus Christ unless we let them. I'm not afraid of Satan, and I'm not afraid of demons. I see no reason to engage them in the way that Todd Bentley teaches.

I’m concerned about those in the Vineyard that are sending people from their churches there in order to "bring something back.

I’ve been going to Vineyard churches for the past couple of years. Vineyard isn’t technically a denomination; it is an association. According to some websites, such as http://www. apologeticsindex. org, it is obvious to me that there have been false teachers in Vineyard, just as with any other denomination or association of churches. There is no perfect denomination/association, and Vineyard is no exception to the rule.

I don't know anything about these false teachers except from what I have read online....and from what I have read, the Kansas City Prophets were once associated with Vineyard, and these prophets were false.

I know of one Vineyard that teaches things that I don't agree with....and that would be the Albany Vineyard in Oregon. All the people who put together the Elijah List attend that church. I feel that any church that supports those featured on the Elijah List has gone off the deep end. I believe in Vineyard's statement of faith, but unfortunately a statement of faith does not guarantee that a particular church in that denomination/association is going to teach sound doctrine. And believe me....I DO stand up for Vineyard when others attack it.....but I have to be honest. There ARE some unbiblical Vineyard churches. The same is true with the United Methodist church or any denomination. Unfortunately the Elijah List recommends and endorses the false prophets and teachers.
So does the church that they attend :(

Rich Nathan, pastor of Vineyard Church of Columbus, and I respect him a lot. I listen to his sermons online sometimes. I hope that he says something against this "revival." It’ll probably have to come to his attention one way or another. Right now there is nothing on Vineyard Church of Columbus' websiste regarding it. That’s not suprirsing, though, because the Vineyard’s ththat I know are not into all this chasing after spritual gifts and manifestations. They are focused on Jesus Christ and the gospel. So in order for this "revival" to concern these churches, it will have to be brought to our attention from the outside. If he knew about this, I'm quite certain that Rich Nathan would be 100% against it.

If a bunch of people from Vineyards are going to get caught up in this stuff, then it could cause a huge controversy within Vineyard....but controversies are not always bad. I don't know....those who oppose it within Vineyard are either going to have to take a stand for the truth or the whole issue will be ignored. Some churches would get swept up in the false teachings while other churches would stay right on focus.

“ANGELS” & the FLORIDA HEALING REVIVAL -

This video is a sample of the revival, along with laughter, shaking, and angels. This article is a warning of “lying signs and wonders” by Andrew Strom. There are many problems with the “holy laughter which came out of various revivals along with Angelic visitation.
You need to read this and watch the video, then seek the Lord about this, considering the warning.

I continue to get emails about last week’s article - “A FALSE HEALING REVIVAL?” Some people strongly agree, while others are totally outraged that I would question the healings or other manifestations that are occurring.

Personally I am deeply saddened that I even have to put out these warnings. I get no pleasure out of it. In fact I hate having to talk about this stuff. But what happens if something is seriously amiss and yet no warnings are given? Is it right to be silent in such a case? What about the precious sheep? Shouldn’t they be warned?

What a lot of people may not realize is that the leader of the revival Todd Bentley has a long history in the “Laughing/ Drunkenness” movement - but also is a leading proponent of strange “Angel” encounters (and I do mean ’strange’). Todd has openly promoted these encounters for years - in fact he is well-known for leading others into contact with these ‘angels’ too. This has been a big part of his ministry for a very long time. And it is really no different now.

Here are a couple of extracts from Todd’s 2003 article ‘Angelic Hosts’:

“So when I need a financial breakthrough I don’t just pray and ask God for my financial breakthrough. I go into intercession and become a partner with the angels by petitioning the Father for the angels that are assigned to getting me money: “Father, give me the angels in heaven right now that are assigned to get me money and wealth. And let those angels be released on my behalf. Let them go into the four corners of the earth and gather me money.”

“EMMA, ANGEL Of The PROPHETIC
Now let me talk about an angelic experience with Emma. Twice Bob Jones asked me about this angel that was in Kansas City in 1980: “Todd, have you ever seen the angel by the name of Emma?” He asked me as if he expected that this angel was appearing to me. Surprised, I said, “Bob, who is Emma?” He told me that Emma was the angel that helped birth and start the whole prophetic movement in Kansas City in the 1980s. She was a mothering-type
angel that helped nurture the prophetic as it broke out. Within a few weeks of Bob asking me about Emma, I was in a service in Beulah, North Dakota. “In the middle of the service I was in conversation with Ivan and another person when in walks Emma. As I stared at the angel with open eyes, the Lord said, “Here’s Emma.” I’m not kidding. She floated a couple of inches off the floor. It was almost like Kathryn Khulman in those old videos when she wore a white dress and looked like she was gliding across the platform. Emma appeared beautiful and young - about 22 years old - but she was old at the
same time. She seemed to carry the wisdom, virtue and grace of Proverbs 31 on her life. She glided into the room, emitting brilliant light and colors. Emma carried these bags and began pulling gold out of them. Then, as she walked up and down the aisles of the church, she began putting gold dust on people… Within three
weeks of that visitation, the church had given me the biggest offering I had ever received to that point in my ministry. Thousands of dollars! Thousands!… During this visitation the pastor’s wife (it was an AOG church) got totally whacked by the Holy Ghost - she began running around barking like a dog or squawking like a chicken
as a powerful prophetic spirit came on her. Also, as this prophetic anointing came on her, she started getting phone numbers of complete strangers and calling them up on the telephone and prophesying over them… Then angels started showing up in the church.” [END QUOTE]

I just watched part 1 of this video...

what struck me was the clips of Bentley speaking did not in any way give evidence to me that he was speaking by the Spirit. When pastors who have the Holy Spirit speak, they speak in truth. Their message lines up with Scripture, and the Holy Spirit testifies to me that it is truth. I know what the truth is.

This guy did not give glory to God. When he was reading Scripture he did not highlight God or glorify Him. Instead he highlighted the angel, and glorified the angel....then he talked about having experiences......there was no substance to his words (because he was not speaking by the Spirit).

And yes, he called Jesus an angel. :(

And he obviously did not care about Jesus Christ......he only cared about having experiences and talking about them. What he was saying has no place in Christianity. the stuff he was talking about was extra-biblical....and the people editing the video were right. Todd Bentley has no discernment.

Bentley does not preach the truth. If you want to hear a good preacher, I’ll give you the links to several sermons I have saved on my computer....then compare them with Bentley’s preaching. The difference should be immediately evident.

In conclusion:
he thing is, though, that God commands us to be decerning......so that we do not get led astray. We are commanded to test the spirits. We need to check to make sure that what is being taught by Todd Bentley is lining up with Scripture and sound doctrine. The Holy Spirit will NEVER go against Scripture.

1JN 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2TI 4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

TIT 1:5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

TIT 2:1 You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Because Todd Bentley is leading a revival, he is placing himself in the position of being a Christian leader....therefore he is responsible for what teachings come out of his meetings. We need to examine his doctrine. There is no going around this issue.

Furthermore, just because someone does healings does not mean that they are automatically of God....

DT 13:1 If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, 2 and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, "Let us follow other gods" (gods you have not known) "and let us worship them, " 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

In my opinion, failing to give God glory while trying to start a big revival signifies that this revival is not of God. I’m not saying that we have to be perfect in order for God to work.....but I am saying that those who teach should do so in accordance with sound doctrine. If they do not, then there is something seriously wrong.

â€--I went to a â€--Texas Ablaze” conference in Austin, TX. It was put on by Stand Firm World Ministries, Fresh Fire Ministries, and Streams Ministries. Some of the speakers were Keith Miller (SFWM), Todd Bentley (FFM), and Barbie Breathitt (Streams Ministries). It was hosted at one of the local Austin churches (I forget the name of the church). It was three days long beginning on a Friday, in February.

Around the registration tables were tables piled full of things you can buy from the ministries, or outrageous prices, too. 25 dollars for a CD, or 30 bucks for a book. They had sets to teach you how to have experiences like Todd Bentley has (going up to the third heaven, meeting angels, etc, etc.) From Todd Bentleyâ€--s ministry you could also buy hankies and get Todd to pray over them, and transfer the anointing to them, so your sick relative or friend might be healed, or if they were healthy, just get an â€--explosion” of an anointing of the Holy Spirit. (based on people getting healed from Paulsâ€-- hankies in Acts. I donâ€--t think Paul made people pay for hankies though). Streams Ministries had cards that excited everyone, because our church was involved with Streams Ministries, and was doing Dream Interpretation. They had laminated cards that you could buy for $10-25 that were ‘cheat sheetsâ€-- on things like 1)

What causes what illnesses, or 2) What numbers, colors, letters, and various animals mean in dreams. My friends bought the illnesses card and the dream card, and I looked at them on the way home. The Illnesses card had things like â€--Obesity is caused by low-self esteem.” â€--Low back pain is caused by familiar spirits.” Etc. It was a chart with the illnesses on the left and the demons/spiritual conditions on the top , with Xâ€--s to show you what caused what. Some things were caused by multiple things. They also had other material for sale that of course, showed you how to cast out whatever demons you had so you could get well, or how to get better self esteem so you wouldnâ€--t be obese. The dreams card was your basic run of the mill dream interpretation stuff, like the color red means danger, purple means royalty, etc.

One thing I noticed is they interrupted the service a lot to advertise products at the pulpit. They would talk for a minute about a book or CD, and then remind us that we could buy it in the foyer for a â€--low, low” price. I did not see how this is doing anything but turning a house of prayer into a house of merchandise. They did this between speakers. They encouraged people during the breaks to go out and shop at the tables.

In the sanctuary, they had special areas roped off for ‘VIPâ€-- people. Churches that were partners with the ministries, or groups that had paid extra money, got to sit in these special areas up front. Everyone else that had just paid the regular price had to sit in the back. Sometimes we could not all sit together because there wasnâ€--t enough room in one area, and we had not reserved an
area for our group. Apparently paying extra money for your group got your group mentioned up front, because the first day they were like â€--And weâ€--ve got guests from such-and-such church over here”and then that church would clap to show everyone where they were. They did not mention any groups that were not seated in the VIP sections.

At the beginning of the conference Keith Miller talked about how he felt there were going to be â€--open heavens” during this conference and people were going to get new anointings and stuff like that. I donâ€--t remember much about Keith Miller, except that when he was ‘invokingâ€-- the Holy Spirit, he kept saying â€--psssshhh, pssssh”into the microphone. Like, â€--Come down Holy Spirit, psssh , psssh, psssh. The Holy Spiritâ€--s coming tonight, psssh, pssh. Psssh. Psssh.” It was very weird, and I did not know that making hissing noises into
the microphone like that got the Holy Spirit to come down. It actually made me a little uncomfortable, the way he was doing it. But I had not experienced something like that before, so I did not pay much attention to it, but it did not seem much like praying to me. He talked a lot about angels appearing to him and such, and how
there were angels in the room. He talked a lot about ‘mantlesâ€--. How
God was going to rip off a tiny piece of His robe and float it on down to you to cover you, and you would get a new mantle that would give you some kind of power. That prophetic mantles, and healing mantles, etc, would be given out today, straight from God. (They tie this in with Elisha taking Elijahâ€--s mantle).

So Barbie from Streams Ministries also spoke. She spoke about â€--heavenly orbs” that people would be seeing at conferences, and how they would capture them on camera. How these ‘heavenly orbsâ€-- were Godâ€--s glory and angels and things like that. How they had pictures of one that when you looked close, you would see a figure with her hands held out. That these orbs (Angels) were here to minister to us. They showed pictures on the projector of orbs at other conferences, some of the pictures had more orbs than others. How many orbs were there was supposed to be in proportion to how much glory of God had come down. I was extremely skeptical about the whole orbs thing, because it just did not sound right to me. One of my friends caught ‘orbsâ€-- on her digital camera , but when we showed them to our photographer friend back in San Antonio who could not come to the conference, she told us that those orbs were nothing but ‘lens flareâ€--. Also while Barbie was talking, she interpreted some dreams from pastors. She would only do it for pastors and not anyone else. The reason she gave for this was that they work hard and we need to give something back, etc. Strangely, all the pastorâ€--s dreams, while each one very different, all seemed to mean that God would be blessing expanding their ministry and bringing
them rich people to their church to help. (One guy had some dream about diving into a well with a big fish , and she took this to mean a ‘big fishâ€-- businessman who would be able to finance ministries.)

When Todd Bentley finally spoke (I believe it was the 2nd day), the atmosphere in the room was like â€--Finally! The guy we have been waiting for!” And you could feel the room get excited in anticipation. He started out really energetic. There wasnâ€--t any prayer beforehand. He was sweating within like 3 minutes. Not that there is anything wrong with sweat, but you could see the perspiration on his brow from the back of the room. What was weird, was that he said he was going to preach on a psalm. So we all got out our bibles. But every time he went to try to read the verse, he would begin to laugh, and stagger, and make weird noises. This made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. It seemed as though he was mocking the scripture, by laughing at it when he began to read it. Everyone admired him for this, though, saying he was so â€--drunk in the Spirit” that he could not read his bible! He would calm down, but as soon as he went over to the pulpit where his bible was, he would immediately become so â€--drunk” that he could not read nor preach, but just would stagger around laughing and snorting for a few minutes. Still acting rather drunk, he began to preach about all the great things heâ€--s done (with Godâ€--s help, of course.) About how he went from having no money to having a multi-million dollar ministry, and healings, etc, and how great it all was. Everyone thought this was a fantastic testimony on his part, but I wondered why God would have him set aside whatever he was going to preach on to brag about his accomplishments. He laughed, snorted, and chortled through his entire speech. Whenever he would begin to mention something a scripture said, he would become incoherent. Why could he not read nor recite the scriptures without breaking into a fit? But was able to maintain enough composure to brag about all the great stuff Godâ€--s done with him. And people ate it up! It was seriously disturbing to me. He talked a lot about how he would go to the third heaven, and how many times heâ€--s met angels, etc. And how you, too, can get into a Holy-Spirit induced trance whenever you want and go to heaven, and how heâ€--s got teachings on how to do it. (apparently we can force the Holy Spirit to take us to heaven and have out-of-body experiences whenever we want.) He related one tale, of a witch doctor. Who had come to a conference of his. That
night God took him out-of-body, supposedly, and into the witch doctorâ€--s dreams, and witnessed to him while he was dreaming. The witch doctor came back the next day saved because of being witnessed to while he was dreaming. He also talked about one time, he got taken up into the third heaven, and angels were running around saying â€--The books of destiny, the books of destiny!” and stuffed a page from one of those books which had a map of this one African country into his mouth, and then 3 days later the ruler of that country called his ministry.

Eventually he quit talking about his accomplishments and moved right into the â€--Awesome Signs and Wonders” part of his talk (so there was no sermon or teaching. Just Todd saying how awesome he is, He prophesied over one lady, that she was going to get the â€--Esther anointing.” Apparently in the prophetic world, women can only have one of two things, 1. A Jezebel Spirit or 2. An Esther Anointing. Apparently the Esther anointing means God gives you favor with people to get where you want to. (like the King had favor with Esther.) Like if you want to get promoted at a job, having the Esther anointing with give you favor with your employer to get promoted. Things like that. So he prophesied that this anointing would fall on her, and many good things would come her way because of it. Getting the Esther anointing is a sure way to get ahead in the world, apparently.

He also called a boy that had been helping collect offerings, who looked to be about 8 years old. He prophesied over him that he would have many ministries and bring many people to God. Then he threw the Spirit into the boy, and the boy shook as if having a seizure, and then fell over. When the boy got up and went off the stage, Todd called the boy back up and did it again, so the boy shook and fell down, twice. Todd also prophesied over a very young girl (about six or seven), all good things of course, and then did the shake/fall thing with her, only he made her come back two more times, for a total of three. Each time the girl got up crying, and was on her way to her mother, but since Todd called her back, someone would take her hand and guide her back to Todd. When she finally did get to her mother she hugged her very tightly. I could not tell if she was crying because she was frightened or not. Todd eventually went through the aisles blowing down aisles of people. He skipped my aisle. When Todd Bentley took up the offerings (on top of the other offerings that were already taken, and the entrance fee , and whatever ridiculous amount of money they were profiting off their books and prayer hankies), he began to talk about how God had given him a word that somebody in the congregation was going to feel led by the Lord to write a check for twenty thousand dollars, and God was going to bless them for that. And that if you felt that that word was for you, and you are the one with twenty thousand dollars in the bank, you should get out your checkbook, because God was going to bless you by multiplying your offering 100x. He talked about seed offerings a little, too, saying that if you gave a seed offering, your checkbook would be bulging because God was going to bless you, and you would be able to get a new house, and a new car, and whatever else you needed. He was really intent on getting somebody out there to write a twenty thousand dollar check, because he went back to it a few times during this offering speech.

There was a quadriplegic boy that was deformed in a wheelchair. His mother was spoon-feeding him in the hallway. They had come to the conference every day. You could tell by the hopeful expression on his face he wanted to get healed, and that was why he was here. I prayed that God might grant their request, and if it was God speaking to Todd Bentley, that He would give him a word and heal the boy. But all of Todd Bentleyâ€--s words from the Lord were to heal people of being fat, or tennis elbow, or having chronic bowel trouble. The quadriplegic boy left the service in the same physical state that he had come. So did all the other people that were wearing leg braces, or using crutches, or canes. I wondered why God wouldnâ€--t heal them, but heal all these other people of much more minor ailments.

Todd Bentley spoke about the â€--kingly anointing”. He took some obscure passage from the old testament and talked about how the kingly anointing allows us to hand out judgment and serve justice in the world by decreeing righteousness. And how, when we have it, we can proclaim things and then justice will supernaturally happen. But if we donâ€--t decree it, then the injustice is allowed to stay. Like if someone does something wrong, we have to set forth a heavenly decree saying â€--That isnâ€--t right! Itâ€--s not right, and I will not tolerate it!” and then something will happen to serve justice, because you put forth your decree of judgment under your kingly anointing. Like if somebody beats you up, you can be like â€--It isnâ€--t righteous! Itâ€--s wrong! I will not stand it any longer, Lord!” , and then watch them get run over by a car. Wham, Bam, Justice served. (Ok, I exaggerate with the car running over people. But that was the main jist of it, was that people would get their just deserves. ) Then he led the congregation in prayer over their bellies, saying that water would come from our bellies and bring life. Then he led a prayer for the kingly anointing to fall on everybody so everybody could go out decreeing righteousness.

Todd Bentley supposedly cast out a demon that was causing a woman chronic lower back pain. (if you have lower back pain, it is always a demon lodged in your sciatic nerve, he said. This was supported by the illnesses card that was being sold by Streams Ministries that I mentioned earlier.).when she realized I was not going to going to fall over, and was just going to keep crying, so she moved on.

I was not the only one who did not fall over. I noticed that a few others did not either. I went and sat by the wall to pray, and was . I felt uncomfortable about the whole conference, and it just reached a climax at that point, as I saw people shaking with seizure-like things, and laughing uncontrollably, and rolling around on the floor. I cried a lot, also, because nobody seemed to really be praying to God. In fact not a whole lot of prayer seemed to go on during this conference, for as long as it lasted, there were only a few times that any of the speakers prayed. The only ‘prayerâ€-- was to call down the Holy Spirit, or ask for angels to heal or give anointings. They talked about the Holy Spirit a lot, and not so much about Jesus or the Gospel.

my friends had bought me Todd Bentleyâ€--s Autobiography and his cd, â€--marinating”. Listening to the CD disturbed my spirit. It seemed like trance-inducing music with Todd Bentley popping in once in awhile to try to hypnotize you. His autobiography said some interesting things as well, but I cannot remember all of them now, but he talks a lot about all the supernatural experiences heâ€--s had after being saved (some of them are really weird.). I was very disappointed leaving the conference, I did not feel ‘refreshedâ€-- or ‘renewedâ€-- like everybody else was saying they did. I didnâ€--tâ€--fall under the power” or receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or anything that I had gone there expecting. I did feel like He showed me where NOT to look for Him, though, because I felt like the whole thing grieved God very much. I did not know what all of made me feel horrible, but I know that my uncomfortableness was not just because it was unfamiliar to me. Many times during the services it seemed like they were mocking God, though nobody took notice of it. I could not explain to everyone why I felt so disturbed, so I mostly kept my mouth shut. Later, after God led me to leave my church (I was having issues with my church as well), I began to realize what was wrong with the conference, and why God did not like it, and I would remember things I had previously forgotten about the conference that disturbed me. There were many other things that happened at the conference that I have not mentioned here, but I cannot remember all the details of them all.”

Just more evidence to expose the phoniness of Bentley: A friend of mine emailed a prayer request to Bentleyâ€--s website. He got a response stating that if he paid a whole bunch of money, Bentley would personally pray for him. Thatâ€--s a load of crap!

Posted: May 23, 2008 5:42 AM I just listened to Rich Nathan’s recent two sermons on the Holy Spirit and healing. He doesn’t say that he’s doing this, but these two sermons seem to directly confront the Lakeland "revival." I don’t know whether or not he knows about the "revival, " but his this directly refutes the whole "revival."

Listen to most two recent sermons, because it refutes Todd Bentley’s healing, the whole Florida revival....all glory is given to God, points back to the cross, and it does affirm that there are real healings that are done by the real Holy Spirit.

Rich Nathan specifically says, "God is enough. We don’t need to go somewhere else to get what they have, you don’t need to seek out some important so that you get help."

Seducing Spirits

Hearken diligently concerning these things, for in the last days shall come seducing spirits that shall turn many of My anointed ones away.

Many shall fall through divers lusts, and because of sin abounding. But if you will seek Me diligently I will put My Spirit within you. When one shall turn to the right hand or to the left you shall not turn with them, but keep your eyes wholly on the Lord. The coming days are the most dangerous, difficult and dark, but there shall be a mighty outpouring of My Spirit upon many cities, and many shall be destroyed.

My people must be diligently warned concerning the days that are ahead. Many shall turn after seducing spirits; many are already seducing My people. It is those who DO righteousness that are righteous.

Many cover their sins by great theological words. But I warn you of seducing spirits who instruct My people in an evil way. Many of these I shall anoint, that they may purify and sift My people; for I would have a holy people.

Many shall come with seducing spirits and hold out lustful enticements. You will find that after I have visited My people again, the way shall become more and more narrow, and fewer shall walk there in. But be not deceived, the ways of righteousness are My ways. For though Satan come as an angel of light hearken not to him; for those who perform miracles and speak not righteousness are not of Me.

I warn you with great intensity that I am going to judge My house and have a church without spot or wrinkle when I come. I desire to open your eyes and give you spiritual understanding, that you may not be deceived but may walk with uprightness of heart before Me, loving righteousness and hating every evil way.

Look unto Me and I will make you to perceive with the eyes of the Spirit the things that lurk in darkness, that are not visible to the human eye. Let me lead you in this way that you may perceive the powers of darkness and battle against them. It is not a battle against flesh and blood; for if you battle in that way you accomplish nothing. But if you let Me take over and battle against the powers of darkness then they are defeated, and then liberation is brought to My people.

I Warn You

I warn you to search the Scriptures diligently these last days.

For the things that are written shall indeed be made manifest. There shall come deceivers among My people in increasing numbers, who shall speak forth the truth and shall gain the favor of the people. For the people shall examine the Scriptures and say, “What these men say is true.”

Then when they have gained the hearts of the people, then and THEN ONLY shall they bring out these wrong doctrines.

Therefore, I say that you should not give your hearts to men, nor hold people’s persons in admiration. For by these very persons shall Satan enter into My people.

WATCH FOR SEDUCERS. Do you think a seducer will brandish a new heresy and flaunt it before the people? He will speak the words of righteousness and truth, and will appear as a minister of light, declaring the Word. The people’s hearts shall be won. Then, when the hearts are won, they will bring out their doctrines, and the people shall be deceived.

The people shall say, “Did he not speak thus and thus? And did we not examine it from the Word? Therefore he is a minister of righteousness. This that he has now spoken we do not see in the Word, but it must be right, for the other things he spoke were true.”

Be Not Deceived

Be not deceived. For the deceiver will first work to gain the hearts of many, and then shall bring forth his insidious doctrines.

You cannot discern those who are of Me and those who are not of Me when they start to preach. But seek Me constantly, and then when these doctrines are brought out you shall have a witness in your heart that these are not of Me.

Fear not, for I have warned you. Many will be deceived. But if you walk in holiness and uprightness before the Lord, your eyes shall be open and the Lord will protect you. If you will constantly look unto the Lord you will know when the doctrine changes, and will not be brought into it. If your heart is right I will keep you; and if you will look constantly to Me I will uphold you.

Great Dangers

The minister of righteousness shall be on this wise — his life shall agree with the Word, and his lips shall give forth that which is wholly true, and it will be no mixture.

When the mixture appears then you will know he is not a minister of righteousness.

The deceivers speak first the truth and then error, to cover their own sins which they love. Therefore I exhort and command you to study the Scriptures relative to seducing spirits, for this is one of the great dangers of these last days.

I desire you to be firmly established in My Word and not in the personalities of men, that you will not be moved as so many shall be moved. I would keep you in the paths of righteousness. Take heed to yourselves and follow not the seducing spirits that are already manifesting themselves.

Diligently inquire of Me when you hear something that you have not seen in the Word, and do not hold people’s persons in admiration, for it is by this very method that Satan will hold many of My people.

Truth In The Inward Parts

The truths that I have revealed to you must become a part of you — not just an experience, but a part of your very nature. Is it not written that I demand truth in the inward parts? It is the truth of the Lord expressed in your very being that shall hold you. Many shall experience the truth, but the truth must become a part of you, your very life.

As men and women look upon you they will hear not only the voice but see the expression of the truth. Many shall be overcome because they are not constant in My ways, and because they have not permitted the truths to become part of them. I am showing you these things that you may be prepared, and having done all, to stand.

Fear not the days to come, but fear this only, that you shall walk in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

In this time I am ordering and setting up My church and it shall indeed be pure, without spot or wrinkle. I will do work in My beloved that has not been seen since the foundation of the world. I have shown you these things that you may seek the Lord diligently with all your heart, and that you may be a preserver of His people.

My response:
I’m in complete agreement with you.

The tip off for us should be that Bentley relies on angels instead of on God....that he is claiming to do his healings via this angel. This angel is the same one that William Branham said was allowing him to do the healings.

The Holy Spirit, and Him alone, gives power to people -- if the source is God. If God is not the source, then the only other available source is Satan and his demons.

According to several Christian’s testimonies, when Christians prayed and said something like this, "Lord, if this healing is from You, then please bless it. If it is not, then hinder it."

The result of that was that William Branham said he could not do any healing, and that a "disturbing power" was preventing him. He, in effect, called God a disturbing power!!

Come on, church! Wake up!!!

A true revival is all about Jesus Christ -- His life, death, and bodily resurrection -- the gospel message -- salvation. This is its main emphasis...the Holy Spirit always points back to Jesus and the work that was done on the cross. (this is largely absent in Bentley’s preaching)

It is not about going after the manifestations of the Holy Spirit.....yes, manifestations can and do happen today, but they are not the gospel. They do not save us.

GAL 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!


Notice that Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote "or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than teh one we presented to you."

No pastor I know of who loves Jesus Christ emphasizes angels.

Angels appearing to people have caused people to start cults -- Mormons are an example

Listen to what the Holy Spirit says about this "revival." He’s not being silent. When people start ignoring the Holy Spirit’s warnings is when people get into trouble. They talk themselves out of His warnings by saying, "maybe Satan’s trying to get in the way."

That’s the exact same tactic that the false apostles of Second 8th week ministries use -
