I cannot stop playing this album. As wildly imaginative as the early stuff but also quite tuneful. A crazily beautiful piece of work.

the beefheart canon of work would be sorely missing without this or ice cream for crow. took me about 5 years to even consider listening to anything past strictly personal and spotlight kid/clear spot. thank god i gave it a go, these are the two most rewarding releases of his career. i do prefer ice cream for crow though, seems to be utterly more fried than this, both incredible efforts though.

there's nothing like a captain beefheart record to get you going for a day of early rising and acting all professional and presentable and shit.

I like this one as much as any of the earlier great ones. I like it better than Decals, frankly, which sounds muddy to me. Just my opinion, of course, but I defy anyone who tries to tell me that one or the other album is "the best". That's just plain stupid. I said I like it better, not that it IS better.

I was really doubtful of what this record would sound like and it floored me once i gave it a chance. Drumbo kills on this one
