  • I have still yet to hear a song as interesting as Sheriff Of Hong Kong. For real, if you listen to one Beefheart track that should be it.
  • I share a birthday with some pretty cool people (including Martin Luther King Jr.) but Don Van Vliet is the best of them.
  • Happy birthday Captain
  • Happy birthday, Don!
  • Clear Spot, The Spotlight Kid and Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) are among my favorites from the Captain. Everything he ever did besides Bluejeans & Moonbeams and Unconditionally Guaranteed was great.
  • My life ran through my veins whistlin' hollow, well
  • Dunno, lately Clear Spot's been growing on me. The second half of the album is just brilliant.
  • “Be kind, man – don’t be mankind.”
  • Yup. Albums like Lick My Decals Off, Baby, Ice Cream For Crow or Doc At The Radar Station are easily almost as good as Trout Mask if not just as good.
  • It's a shame the albums other than TMR and Safe as Milk aren't more popular.
  • My biggest fear of death is no longer being able to listen to Beefheart.[3]
  • My biggest fear of death is no longer being able to listen to Beefheart.[2]
  • decent Howlin Wolf impersonator
  • I recommend having a read of Sean Bonney's paper on Trout Mask Replica that he presented to the International Conference of Esemplastic Zappology (aka ICE-Z) in 2004 (here's yr link ---> http://www.militantesthetix.co.uk/ice-z/sean.htm). In it you can find a trashing of 'classic rock' and Mojo magazine, an appreciation of both the Dadaist poetics of "Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish" and the pointed social commentary of "AntManBee", and finally a useful reminder that TMR is "also great for dancing". Right on!
  • I sense some Psilocybin vibes on here. .Please pass some up my way.
  • My biggest fear of death is no longer being able to listen to Beefheart.
  • I really dig this band. Good stuff.
  • everybody's gone high society
  • sometimes I'm just baffled that something like TMR exists
  • Man, it's been too long since I spun TMR. Need to remember to do this more often.
  • God damn this band kicks ass!
  • so bad it's bad
  • Intense regimes of rehearsal and poor salary - ha ha! - the resultats are stunning!
  • captain plebheart and his pleb band
  • Goes to show ya what a moon can do
  • I ain't blue no more!
  • I'm excited about Sun Zoom Spark, but I've heard all of the unreleased tracks many times, as they've been circulating on bootlegs forever. It'll be great to own LMDOB on CD, though! I've owned it on vinyl for ages, but it'll be good to also have it on CD.
  • Hell yes, very excited about that! I would love to own Lick My Decals separately as well. But because of the outtakes/new songs and we finally get Decals on CD, i think it's totally worth it.
  • Anyone excited about this? - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sun-Zoom-Spark-1970-1972/dp/B00N4FAVCA/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415735113&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=sun+soom+spark+box+set I was sceptical initially in that I thought that it was just a way of being duped into paying more for a CD reissue of Lick My Decals (an album I would adore to own, instead of having the mp3s). It pissed me off that they couldn't just package it separately. I wouldn't want to fork money for reissues of Spotlight Kid/Clear Spot, either. The outtakes look REALLY alluring, though. Check out this previously unreleased song. It's probably the first time I've heard a Beefheart track for the first time since the age of fifteen! - http://dangerousminds.net/comments/amazing_unreleased_captain_beefheart (scroll down)
  • The original Bat Chain Puller blew my mind today
  • Abba Zaba - прям ня
  • при том, что он гений, несомненно, думаю, в его музыке слишком много изобретательности, и слишком мало всего остального.
  • Laughed my ass off when I first heard the vox. It is something!
  • Fellow Beefheartarians! Are you up your own arse? Join my group 'I Have "Chronic Up-One's-Own-Arse Syndrome.' - http://www.last.fm/group/I+Have+%27Chronic+Up-One%27s-Own-Arse+Syndrome%27
  • Hyperbole is strong in this shoutbox.
  • http://www.last.fm/group/Doc+at+the+Radar+Station Group I just made for Doc at the Radar Station!
  • Lepiej już być nie może.
  • Doc At The Radar Station is a fucking masterpiece. Definitely my pick for best Beefheart album.
  • ughh tisss ugggghhhhh tisss fuck me hard. CB&HMB are legends. - gs3k
  • I decided to try listening through Trout Mask replica...after 14 minutes, nothing made sense to me anymore.
  • I just wanted to take back my minor complaint about TMR having some filler. It does not. It is a fucking perfect masterpiece.
  • amen to sunheadbowed
  • WOE IS UH ME BOP WOE IS UH ME BOP WOE
  • I agree with Mampato that I find Ice Cream for Crow slightly filler-ish. I mean, by anyone else's standards the album is outstanding, but I find it slightly disappointing by Beefheart standards. I prefer the two preceding albums as far as the late-period stuff goes. I do not believe there's any filler on Trout Mask Replica at all, and Hair Pie is an essential part of the puzzle. The Zappa anti-production is one of those situations where we can never really know if the album could have sounded even better with a more produced sound, but I'd think it's unlikely it would have sounded quite so special any other way than it is. And I find that Don's primitive and primal sax playing is perfect for the album; the sax at the end of Ant Man Bee is one of the highlights of the whole album -- I can't imagine it not being there. And nostalgia-rush -- people like you are so fucking pointless. You are unoriginal and insecure.
  • Whether it's the hipster thing to do or not is really irrelevant. It doesn't change the fact that Beefheart will always be one of the greatest music groups of all time.
  • 2fastandbulbous4you
  • @nostalgia-rush: Not exactly, but it's so cool that you don't get Beefheart's music :)
  • And some people fallaciously think that this music is gimmicky and trendy. That could not be further from the truth - it has more substance than practically all other rock music. It is a shame to encounter so much shallow contrarianism on this website.
  • people seem to think it's trendy and cool to listen to this god-awful band
