Cameron Scott Fraser’s music obsession developed at a young age when in junior high he received his first CD player for Christmas. This inspired him to borrow an acoustic guitar and cut his teeth on covers of Oasis and REM. It didn’t take long for him to tire of playing other people’s music however, and soon he was writing songs of his own. Introduced by a friend to the concept of multi-track recording, he bought a four-track cassette recorder in order to get his ideas down on tape . This eventually led him to college where he studied recording arts, but more importantly, where he met his future band mates. It took much coercion by his college friends to convince him to abandon his beloved prairie home of Dalmeny, Saskatchewan for the big city, but he eventually gave in. Once in Vancouver they formed Bella, which went on to critical acclaim, releasing two albums, 2004’s independent “Pretty Mess”, and 2007’s “No One Will Know” on local Vancouver label, Mint Records. His involvement in Bella also gave him the opportunity to showcase at several festivals, including NXNE, SXSW, and CMJ, and to play with bands such as The Breeders, Immaculate Machine, Phoenix, and Imperial Teen, among many others. Now, with each of the Bellas heading in their own direction, Cameron’s ready to get back to his roots and resume the pursuit of his own catalogue of classic songs. Combining the commercial sensibilities of his earliest influences with the indie-pop ethic he helped cultivate in Bella, Cameron has developed a radio-friendly sound that’s not too pop and just the right amount of indie.
