Calum Marshall (born Falkirk & known as Cal) is a UK based keyboard player and musician. Here with long time collaborator, George Falconer, (a well known Percussionist who has contributed to a variety of wide ranging recording projects), decided to bring together a range of musicians given their love of Jazz fusion & Electronic music. The result was the Black Market ‘Alternative Structures’ sessions under the name Jazz Bastards, later changed to Jazz Prophets so as not to offend anyone.

‘Alternative Structures’ is a collection of early recordings made predominantly at Black Market Sound Studio, between 1992 & 1993 & and range from Weather Report type influences using more traditional 70’s instruments, to more modern electronica synthesizer pieces. The musicians on these recordings vary depending on the track and Include: George Falconer (Drums & Percussion), John Longbotham (Sax), Ian Middleton (Fretless Bass), Drew Welsh (Electric Bass on “The Peking Diner”) & Peter Watson (Electric Guitar on “The Peking Diner”). George Falconer is a long time collaborative musician and friend of Cal’s whose wide ranging experience of recording & production is evident in both his approach and his experimental work on these recordings. ‘Alternative Structures’ is a collection of some of those early recordings & the Alternative Structures track is a duet put together by George & Cal with a live take approach. Bob Goes to the Store is also a live take. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did writing, performing & recording them.
