Thanos Stavridis (accordion) and Vassilis Kommatas (clarinet, saxophone) have known each other playing together for several years in “Βόρειοι Εταίροι” (a group from Northern Greece experimenting with the sounds of their Balkan environment from the point of view of a jazz background). Sharing the same interest in traditional balkan music, they decided to form a new group with the help of producer Nickos Stefanidis. Jaming songs of Balkan Beat Box, Watcha Clan, Rupa & The April Fishes, and having Lilo- Laurent Limeul (vocals, guitar, electonics, loops), and Vassilis Themelis (tuba) joining them, they finally created “Cabaret Balkan”. It is a project combining pop, ska, balkan, folk and electronic, playing any kind of covers, from ACDC and Aerosmith to Eurythmics and traditional ethnic songs.
