Zeist, Netherlands (2004 – present)

Early 2004 in Zeist, Netherlands, Thomas Kalksma and Koen Romeijn from renowned Dutch Death/Thrash metal band Detonation came up with the idea to form a new band. But not just another band, the general idea was to form a band in which both guys could experiment with more mellow music and rock-oriented ideas. The decision to search for a “clean singing” vocalist was clear. The first ideas and song structures that were written, were obviously way too laid back for a brutal metal vocalist.

A short period of time later, the band ran into Floortje Donia, an old friend of Thomas and Koen. Thomas knew Floortje had been singing in a bluesy kind of band, and asked if she would be interested in joining the band. After doing a short try-out session with her, it became obvious that she would become the band’s singer.

During the following months, Thomas, Floortje and Koen came together a couple of times to work on basic songstructures and general ideas. From these sessions, 3 melancholic songs were created and recorded at Thomas’ home studio. When producer Hans Pieters heard the material, he insisted that the band should record the 3 tracks in his proffesional Excess studio. In the meantime the decision was finally made to name the band “Cardamon”.

After a while, Thomas and Koen started the search for a 2nd guitarplayer. Soon the idea came up to ask Michiel Bikker, an amazing guitar player who was already a friend and a bandmember of Koen in M-90’s]. Michiel decided to join almost instantly, and now the time had come to find a bass player in order to complete the live line-up.

crystal clear because everything is equally loud...but nowhere near the real sound of guitars, drums, vocals etc. No volume differences. The drum is no louder than a soft vocal. Is that crystal clear, or distorted? ;-) And clipped. Could be that the cd was not mastered like this before they signed with a label...then you're lucky that you have the old version

Great cd, with good songs, but the compression is awful, it sounds so distorted. The dynamic range is below 6, which means hardly any range at all, like static noise from beginning to end with heavy clipping and distortion. This cd would have been awesome if the production had been better, because the music is actually very good! ( Then again, the same goes for almost every metal cd that has come out in the last five years, so who can blame them? everyone wants to win the loudness war)
