11 May 2010, 12:52 by timmyc1983Right, 1996 was when i really, really started getting into it. Now please bare in mind with this, i am telling you my top 5 album of 1996, not from 1996. If i look back now at the years, these lists would probably be different. But these are what they were when i was listening in 1996. (You'll see why i need an excuse as you go down the list)
#5 Recurring Dream - Crowded House
Although this is another greatest hits collection, there were some new songs on it and i forgot to put Crowded House's album Wood Face back in the 1991 list, as i had it on tape and used to listen to it a fair bit. So there we are.
#4 Falling Into You - Céline Dion
So this is where the embarrasment starts, and don't worry there's plenty to come. Although, i do think poor Celine gets a bad wrap. She isn't as bad as everyone thinks... Or is she. …

12 Mar 2008, 10:03 by abbagirlThere's this technique in music that I was trying to explain to a friend one day. The most eloquent explanation I could come up with was "You know, when the key goes higher towards the end of the song?"
Tonight, I found out that Wikipedia calls it "modulation", and a Web site called http://gearchange.org refers to it as the "truck driver's gear change". It's apparently a hallmark of musical mediocrity and creative bankruptcy. It reeks of desperation.
And yet I can think of quite a few songs I love that utilise the technique. The GearChange.org site lists quite a few that made me go, "Oh yeah, I see that".
The first time I heard this type of shift was in 'To Be With You'. You know, where they all pause towards the end until it goes "I'm the one who wants to be with you" and the lead singer wails, "I'm the one, the one"? That did strike me as particularly gratuitous. And don't you just want to clap along with them?
5 Mar 2008, 16:50 by WhereImGoingAlright. Last night finally got me excited about this year's American Idol, so I'll get right to the reviews.
Luke Menard singing Wake Me up Before You Go Go - Just a horrible choice of song, and his falsetto just wasn't up to the challenge. Bye, bye, Luke. You're not bad to look at, but I think you're going to end up in a Christian a capella group. Enjoy the ride while you can.
David Archuleta singing Another Day in Paradise - Yeah, I know the song was originally in the 80's, written and performed by Phil Collins, but David's version was definitely the 21st century version by Brandy and her brother Ray J. He did a good job with it, but I agree with Simon's assessment 100%. It was okay, but he's trying to go for those "things are bad...let's make them better" songs every week, and an American Idol has to have fun every once in a while. Next week should be interesting.
Danny Noriega singing Tainted Love - Unlike some other reviews I've read, I actually didn't mind this performance. …
