San Francisco, United States

Bvdub is Brock Van Wey. Living and working in San Francisco, he has been DJ’ing since 1993, but did not start producing his own material until 2007. Despite this relatively short musical career, Bvdub has released material on Styrax, Quietus (his own imprint), Night Drive Music, its sub-label 2600, Southern Outpost, Darla and n5MD.

Electronic in nature, his biggest musical influences are “beat-less ambient, deep techno, and a combination of the IDM of the late nineties, the modern-day direction of experimental—glitch ambient, and electro-acoustic. ” Commonly lumped into the ‘dub techno’ genre, Brock’s music is anything but; he effortlessly reworks and re-interprets his influences to create something seemingly familiar but wholly different.

Brock has also released music under his given name, Brock Van Wey, as Earth House Hold (deep house), and East of Oceans (drum&bass).

I still purchase CDs to collect and provide financial support. However I see less and less of what I consider 'digipaks' - i.e. with the part that holds a disc in place to keep it from scratching. It might make sense for the labels given that I don't actually listen to the CD, but it still comes across as a bit cheap when I open an album and the disc flops right out. Anyways, I'm getting pretty off topic now :-)

I contacted them, the album is really wonderful! Am I just unlucky to get cd's scratched or has anyone else had any problems, it is usually because of these new 'eco friendly' digipaks, the don't seem to travel well in the post no matter how well they have been packaged.

@Electrofreaks you should email Mike Cadoo, the owner of n5MD. When my copy of 'A History of Distance' got lost in the mail for a few weeks he immediately sent me another copy no questions asked.

Tanto arrived in the post from n5MD, already scratched like the last two cd's I ordered from them. Frustrating.

I can honestly say I don't think I have ever cried listening to music but damn if 'I BREAK ALL AROUND YOU' isn't making me well up a bit. Making me think of my dogs face during our last day on earth together. I had to put him down last month due to cancer. Song makes me think of a picture I took of him looking up at me (head in my lap) during our final moments together.....and damnit I'm a mess now. Anyway this song is beautiful.

So much love for mr brock these days!! Makes me happy. I think Tanto is maybe his best since, well, White Clouds, Tribes, A Careful Ecstasy and Then. I do love Then. And White Clouds. Maybe it's a mix of those albums that makes this a goooood one. Thnx again! :)

how would you describe the first track on Tanto, if you were forced to categorize it in a genre? the drums reminded me of rock music, kinda. it was kinda cool like, it reminded me of post-rock bands like 65daysofstatic but without standard rock instrumentation

I just want to say, Brock, and this will sound cheesy, but thank you for Tanto. I know it was born out of unimaginable pain. And yet, I consider it your best release so far this year. And I know how you of my cats has just been diagnosed with kidney failure and won't be with us much longer. We're doing all we can to keep him alive while he's still in very little pain (medication, a special diet), but my wife and I know the end is coming for our dear Squee cat. Knowing the story behind Tanto makes it all the more special for me and very will might help me get through the tough times ahead. Thank you so much for the unintentional comfort you are giving to fans and fellow cat lovers such as myself.
