He has been called the “poet-laureate of the timber industry” by AllMusic. Lloyd Earl “Buzz” Martin was born of humble beginnings in a tent near Coon Holler, Oregon, in 1928. He turned his hard life of working in the lumber industry into a successful career as a country singer. His first album, “Where There Walks a Logger, There Walks a Man,” debuted in 1968. He appeared on Johnny Cash’s network show in 1972. A year later, he headlined at Disneyland. In 1976, Martin represented his home state of Oregon in the Smithsonian Institutions Bi-Centennial Festival of American Folk Life. All told, he released six full-length albums before passing away in 1980 from a hunting accident.
