Biography

Burlap To Cashmere is an alternative group that draws heavily on folk and world music influences, especially flamenco-style guitar work.

Cousins Steven Delopoulos and John Philippidis were performing in a New Jersey coffeehouse when they were “discovered” by manager Jamison Ernest. The Brooklyn based cousins then assembled a larger band under the name “Burlap to Cashmere”, recruiting guitarist Mike Ernest, bassist Roby Guarnera, keyboardist Josh Zandman, drummer Theodore Pagano and percussionist Scott Barksdale (John Degrazio eventually joined the band on bass when Guarnera left).

The group drew on a wide range of musical styles and influences, but their signature sound was rooted in lightning-fast acoustic guitar rhythms. The band began performing in local New York-area venues, and quickly developed a cult following. In 1997, they independently released their first EP under the label Squint, Live at the Bitter End. In 1998 Burlap to Cashmere signed with A&M Records and released the full-length recording Anybody Out There?, followed by an A&M re-release of Live at the Bitter End.

New album is out today. VERY good. Haven't missed a beat musically, and the lyrics are more mature and poetic than before.

I grew up listening to Christian music. As my taste in music developed I listened to it less and less, and now don't listen to it much anymore because to me most of it isn't very good musically or lyrically. This band is one of the few that I still like. Even the lyrics are pretty good for Christian music.

Yes they disbanded several years ago. If you have never witnessed Steven's nimble fingers live, you are missing a treat. He moves so fast it is hardly human.

I came across these guys by accident once when I happened to catch Eileen's Song on an obscure music channel. I'm glad I bought the album as I think it now one of my favourites!

I remember seeing them live a million years ago; it was my first concert and they were touring with Jars of Clay and Silage. This band was so underrated :( but their sound is just fantastic, and definitely something unique in a market overrun with cliches.

A brilliant album by a great band. Each song is a gem. Divorce is my favorite song--the dramatic buildup in the intro is amazing.

I love this band and I have loved it since the very first moment it came into my hands. Though during the time my favourite track changed its positions :)) Each song is for slightly different mood... new album? Thats brilliant!!!

Did anyone know they did a reunion concert (I missed it). I'm not sure if they are doing anymore shows or even if they have a new CD, but they are on Myspace.
