Bulutsuzluk Özlemi

Journal

  • el Sur / the South / Güney

    17 Feb 2009, 18:54 by frecuencia_cero

    Vuelvo al Sur,
como se vuelve siempre al amor,
    vuelvo a vos,
con mi deseo, con mi temor.

    Llevo el Sur,
    como un destino del corazon,
    soy del Sur,
    como los aires del bandoneon.

    Sueño el Sur,
    inmensa luna, cielo al reves,
    busco el Sur,
el tiempo abierto, y su despues.

    Quiero al Sur,
    su buena gente, su dignidad,
    siento el Sur,
como tu cuerpo en la intimidad.

    Te quiero Sur,
    Sur, te quiero.

    Vuelvo al Sur,
    llevo el Sur,
    te quiero Sur,
    te quiero Sur...

"If you don't know what the South is, you're from the North" from the movie "el Sur" by Argentine director Fernando “Pino” Solanas. "Vuelvo al Sur" is from the soundtrack of this movie. The music was composed by Astor Piazzolla, and the lyrics were written by Pino himself. Many artists have performed this song, Roberto Polaco Goyeneche, Mercedes Sosa, Estrella Morente, Gotan Project and Amelita Baltar, the ex wife of Piazzolla. I think the best ones are Goyeneche's and Gotan Project's interpretations. This song reminds me warmth of the South, the sun and hopes despite the melancholic melodies of the tango. When it is considered that the movie is about being a human with all its meaning and spirituality, and how one can live even in very hard conditions only with his/her own sincere inner voice, these feelings of mine may not be very irrelevant. The other songs related with the South such as "yolda güneş yükseliyordu, güneye giderken solda /the sun was rising in the left while going to the South" by Bulutsuzluk Özlemi / Mor ve Ötesi or "Güney / the South" by İncesaz and Fahir Atakoğlu can also tell about the soul of the South. However, especially "Vuelvo al Sur" reminds me the sunflowers seeking the sun with the lyrics "vuelvo al Sur como se vuelve siempre al amor / I return to the South like one always returns to love". A touching and heartwarming song!!!

  • A History of Turkish Rock

    11 Jun 2006, 05:02 by aydozz

I would like to begin this small journal about Turkish Rock. Please note the title which says "A History...", so it will by no means be exhaustive. It will simply be composed of my opinions and some other people who may be kind enough to post a reply.

The first names that come into my mind are MFÖ, Cem Karaca, Bulutsuzluk Özlemi, Ünlü, Kargo, Pentagram, Whisky, The Climb, Ersen ve Dadaslar, Sebnem Ferah, Yasar Kurt, Özlem Tekin, Baris Manco,Duman, Demir Demirkan,Erkin Koray,Kramp, Kesmeseker, Mor ve Ötesi .

Today's entry will simply be about MFÖ. Their very first albüm (as far as I know) was "Ele Güne Karsi" which contained the incredibly beautiful song Yalnızlık Ömür Boyu. although I was not old enough to figure out its true value at that time :)
Their fourth and arguably the best albüm was "Vak the Rock", one can actually see this by looking at their 1989 "Best of" albüm which contained 6 of the 10 songs from "Vak the Rock" albüm. To name a few:

Adimiz Miskindir Bizim which contained the lyrics from Yunus Emre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunus_Emre)

Bazen (I have nothing bad to say about this masterpiece)

They are still musically alive and making music albeit their production rate diminished significantly. This is mostly due to secondary jobs that the group members are on. Mazhar has released a solo albüm and all of them experienced some actorship in different productions. For me, Özkan is probably is the best "Bad Guy" ever :)

Their last albüm, which is recently released on 2006, is called "AGU". It is certainly good enough to fulfill the great expectations of the fans that had been waiting for a long time. My personal favorites are Milli Park, Sari Laleler, Silmez Gibisin where the last one is especially beautiful with the intense vocals of Fuat.
