“From the ghettos of Victoria comes your average, run-of-the-mill, 14-piece gypsy marching band…and we’re coming for you.”

Bučan Bučan (pronounced loudly as “booCHAN booCHAN”). Literally translated, Bučan is a Serbian word for noisy, raucous, and tumultuous; with up to 14 members, a single Bučan wasn’t enough, it had to be doubled!

Chris Logan and Natasha Enquist wanted to start their dream band, so they did!

They met while playing in a trio during the Spring/Summer of 2008, “Les Fleurs Brisees”, where Enquist learned of Logan’s background in Balkan, Russian, Greek, Romanian, and Macedonian music. Enquist quickly grew an interest for all this music, and in the fall of 2008 Logan and Enquist discussed starting up a new band consisting of Eastern European music.

The original concept was to be something of a Russian duo act, since both performers could sing in the language, Logan brought up his dream of having a big Gypsy band, and Enquist loved the idea since having a background in theatre, and interested in having a band that could also be dramatic and theatrical. The Facebook, UsedVictoria, and Craigslist listings went out and many local musicians applied.

Bučan Bučan has only been together since early 2009, and are made up of 14 circulating musicians, each having their own unique musical background, ensembles and projects, and all together they bring a wonderful spirit to the group.
