It all started with an old guitar that lay abandoned at his grandfather’s house. Ten-year-old Bryan Harkness picked it up and lovingly replaced its strings. His grandpa taught him to play. By the time he was 11, Bryan quit playing baseball to study guitar. His musical career blossomed from there.
At 15, Bryan jammed out with bluegrass groups in clubs surrounding Lufkin, Texas. Right out of high school he toured professionally for nearly four years with the legendary country and western singer Ray Price. Bryan has also played with country greats such as Gene Watson, Johnny Rodriguez, Roy Head. While touring with Ray Price, he shared the stage at the Kennedy Center with Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, The Judds and Kris Kristofferson. He’s been on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Theater in Nashville a whopping five times.
Bryan compares his music to Texas country singers Pat Green, Allen Jackson and George Strait. He is an avid songwriter who gets inspiration from his everyday life.
“Just anything that sparks something,” he said. “By using your imagination you put yourself in that place or in someone else’s shoes.”
He also teaches guitar, runs sound for a local college, and pre-produces songs for other music artists in his home studio. Bryan hopes to continue producing original music and tour with his own band alongside big country acts.
