"They opened up this big, beautiful supermarket near where we lived. Patti and I would go down, and I remember walking through the aisles – I hadn’t been in one in a while – and I thought his place is spectacular. This place is… it’s a fantasy land!…If there’s a supermarket and all these things are there, well, there has to be a queen. And if you go there, of course there is. There’s millions of them, so it’s kind of a song about finding beauty where it’s ignored or where it’s passed by." - Bruce

When I saw him last year he played this one during the encore by request. It was pretty funny. He picked up the sign and said "You know we do a lot of shows and get a lot of request but no one EVER EVER requests this song. Let me guess, you work at the supermarket?" he did it solo acoustically.

With my shopping cart I move through the heart of a sea of fools so blissfully unaware that they're in the presence of something wonderful and rare. The way she moves behind the counter beneath her white apron, her secret remains hers; as she bags the groceries her eyes so bored, and sure she's unobserved.

Lots of haters on this song, but I have to say it's one of my all-time favourite songs, never mind all-time favourite Springsteen songs. I just so get what he's saying. I've felt this way, i think the lyrics are fantastic.
