Biography

briskey is the musical child of Gert Keunen. Besides his professional life as a journalist, record company manager, concert promoter and college teacher, he started making his own tracks since 1993.

Last year briskey started thinking ‘big’: a completely new live band, with 15 musicians on stage and real time visual sampling, brings you a fresh view on the big band concept. Don’t expect jazz standards but a different, dynamic and brisk sound. For the briskey big band Gert Keunen wrote completely new arrangements of some of the best tracks from ‘Cucumber Lodge’ and ‘Scarlett Road-house’, beside two new pieces. This live recording from the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels shows the result: wild brass and strong rhythms, cinematic moods and lots of crazyness, jazz improvisations and cut-up old big band samples. And you’ll hear musicians from Daan, El Tattoo Del Tigre, The Whodads, Gabriel Rios, Billie King, and the Hermes Ensemble.

The briskey big band is not just a next step in the briskey saga, but the ultimate briskey live experience.

In 2001 he released the first maxi under his moniker briskey.
Untill now briskey released four maxis and two albums (Cucumber Lodge in 2003 en Scarlett Road-house in 2006), which all were internationally well received and got nice press reviews. Tracks of briskey have been licensed to compilations in Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Portugal, Greece, Italy and even Brasil and Taiwan.

In 2003 the live band was born.
