    I think for a band like Bright Eyes this kind of song is a risk so for that reason alone I like it. It is an old-school ballad - hard for anyone to say that it isn't well-written. It just comes down to how they chose to record it. Personally I like the strings (which do not = cheese, that's absurd) but think the song is generally over-produced, in the sense that strings can sound stripped down/raw too, which would have complemented their style. And the background vocals have too much glossy reverb...
