In America, circa 1962, The Beach Boys were signed to Capitol Records; whose parent company was (and still is) E.M.I., London, England, U.K. Prior to 1962, Capitol Records (suffice to say) garnered a fair wage with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole in their stable.

In 1964 (factually, late 1963) across the pond, (parent company) E.M.I. signs The Beatles. Moreover, E.M.I./Capitol had the unprecedented distinction of having “the three” uniquely-gifted songwriters, under contract on their roster, who basically wrote the soundtrack of 1960’s culture; and in addition, set the reference standard by which all others are judged.

“The Three” are, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Brian Wilson.

There is but one, only one singular distinction, which separates Lennon/McCartney from Brian Wilson. The Beatles (Lennon and McCartney) relied upon “the 5th Beatle,” that being George Martin; whereas Brian Wilson (answered every Beatle “volley”) with a complete Brian Wilson production.

A diamond necklace played the pawn
Hand in hand some drummed along, oh
To a handsome man and baton
