If you don't include SMiLE, this is the best solo album Brian has ever done. Definately one of the best of the year.

Wilson is the true modern musical genius: a true successor to Beethoven and, later, Gershwin. Both these guys wrote fractured music, a kaleidescope of musical motifs – often essentially simple in themselves, but strong for that - and dissimilar genres competing for ascendancy, that struggles with itself, that’s capricious, that often unwinds or deliberately undermines its own logical motion: but which takes development of these musical ideas to their most indulgent, ecstatic conclusion. Witness Beethoven’s late Quartets. Everything Wilson wanted to achieve in Smile (and has done so)! – and now continues to do so.
