and who influenced e.g. ella fitzgerald? i think it's ok to like the music without drilling to its influential core. if you are a real music lover, then you'll automatically start to explore.

Ok, WOW.. I almost can't believe that only one person left a comment that nailed the original artist of this piece... This is Wes Montgomery's classic, "Bumpin' on Sunset". (which someone else pointed out, was also covered by George Benson). Come people, if you gonna love the music... you have to LOVE THE MUSIC! Everybody who produces music is influenced by some musician that came before. You want to see how your favorite artists developed their styles-- check out who their faves are. If lounge, downtempo, chill are the genres that you love... you should listen to Miles Davis, Modern Jazz Quartet, Wes Montgomery, Charlie 'Bird' Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Bassey, Billy Holiday, Antonio Carlos Jobim, etc.. Listen to these artists and you will hear the influences that you hear in Chillout, Lounge, Downtempo, etc..
