  • My top 50 Artists for 2010

    2 Jan 2011, 09:55 by menslar

I enjoy listing my top artists each year, and 2010 will be no exception. Below are listed my top 50 artists for 2010, the top track(s) and top album(s) for each listed artist, and the position those tracks and albums attained in my 2010 charts. Maybe you'll spot some of your favorites on my charts. If you see any artists, albums, or tracks here that you aren't familiar with, maybe you'll consider giving them a listen. My charts are as much a mixed bag this year as years passed, but I listened to some artists in 2010 to whom even I am a bit surprised to find myself listening. I was in a strange mood this past year, I guess.

There were a lot of ties for track and album positions in 2010, so you'll see some duplicate ranks for tracks and albums in this list. There was even a tie this year for the #50 position for artist rankings, which makes this a top 51 list instead of a top 50 list...

    #50 (tie): Brandy 108 plays
    Top Track: Afrodisiac track #264
  • My top 50 Artists for 2009

    2 Jan 2010, 01:24 by menslar

It's that time of year again. I've always loved keeping track of my own top musical acts and tracks, and I'm so glad I have last.fm to make it easy.

As in years past, I'm also listing the top track(s) and top album(s) for each artist in my top 50, and the position those tracks and albums attained in my charts for 2009. If you see some tracks with the same position number (likewise for albums), it's because they were tied for that position.

As usual, I listened to a mix of new and old music in 2009. Some of it was new to me, but released a few years ago. Some of it was released this year. And there are always some favorite oldies on my charts.

The past two years, Fefe Dobson was my top artist. This year, she's not even in the top 5. I decided to give Sunday Love a break and listen to some other stuff. Which artists topped Fefe this year? Which artists earned the top spots on my 2009 artist, album, and track charts? Read on to find out!

    #50: Amy Macdonald 146 plays
Top track: Let's Start a Band track #183

Comment, listing the number, name, and artist of the song, to guess which ones they are.

Step 1: Put your Media Player/iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 50 songs that play, no matter how embarassing.
Step 3: Bold the song when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

Everyone is doing it... even I did it once before... but this time is different! This lyrics game won't last just a few days like the normal ones do, it will last forever!!!!! (Or maybe a week or so)

I followed all these normal rules:

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 100 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Bold out the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

And I also added these rule clarifications:
    1. I will skip any song that is not in English, instrumental (obviously), a live American Idol track (otherwise the multiple artists is confusing - exception: their original songs), Christmas/Holiday themed, or not actually a song (i.e. interludes, etc)
    2. If a song has an intro of any kind, I will skip it and use the actual first line
    3. If the first line is the title, I will write "" and then the second line

  • how 'indie' am i? ;>

    20 May 2006, 16:15 by pamietliwa

another stupid journal, but since indie became suspiciously trendy and everything what was emo or punk now is indie, and since i noticed somewhere here a lovely banner with inscription ‘indie invasion’ – im going for it!

anything over 25% is considered indie, and anything over 50% is extremely indie.

the same works for any genre.

    1. Take your top ten artists and get their 'indie rating' If you look on the artist page and then click "Tags" you can see how many times they've been tagged "indie":
    1. Mindless Self Indulgence 30
    2. Brand New 228
    3. Alexisonfire 63
    4. Fall Out Boy 268
    5. Lodger 17
    6. Damien Rice 454
    7. Say Anything 93
    8. Taking Back Sunday 228
    9. Boomkat 2
    1o. Dope 3

    2. Add them all together and divide by 10 to get the average:
    138,6

    3. Then divide that by the average of the top ten indie artists (1635), then multiply by 100 to get a percentage: 8,5%

conclusion: some month ago im sure i was indie in no percent…
