Biography

Japan (1990 – present)

Boom Boom Satellites are an duo formed in Japan in 1990. The band is made up of bassist/programmer Masayuki Nakano and guitarist/vocalist Michiyuki Kawashima. They also have a support member, Yoko Fukuda, who plays drums at live performances.

They first debuted in Europe in 1997 with their first single, “4 A Moment of Silence” which received rave reviews from such definitive European music magazines as Melody Maker, which compared their debut impact to those of The Chemical Brothers’ and The Prodigy’s. The band blends the energy of with the meticulousness of music.

In 1998 the band traveled across Europe performing at six major rock festivals and opening for legendary electronic group Underworld. Right after their return to Japan, the band released their debut album Out Loud, which was later released in Europe and the USA as well. In 1998 the band embarked on a 3 month American tour with Moby. Their success was followed by releases of the albums Umbra and Photon, released in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

In 2005 and 2006 their fourth album Full of Elevating Pleasures was released in Japan and the US. They performed at the M3 Music Convention (Miami Music Multimedia) to further promote the album. In 2006, they released On which featured the hit singles “Kick It Out” and “Pill” featured in Japanese television commercials. Their subsequent performances at the Rock In Japan Festival and SUMMER SONIC ‘06 attracted such a huge crowd of people that it went over capacity and venue staff were forced to bar the entrance halfway through the performance for safety reasons.

The album Out Loud has some ill drum beats. Goes good with TSR-80's older albums.

i haven't listened to BBS in a long time.....but "Embrace" is just a great album......probably the best thing i've ever heard them make yet. I kinda gave up on them a long time ago....after "Out Loud".

I liked Broken Mirror but the new album overall is awful. This is the end of my admiration for this band. Not only is the music not very good but the recording quality is abysmal. The music might be amazing if the CD actually sounded good but it's impossible to tell, so way to fail :(

Took me a while to get into Embrace but now I can say I love it. Helter Skelter, Nine, Snow, Things'll Never be the Same, Broken Mirror...All good

The new Album: Embrace All the songs sound the same so the album is not good for me, before it there are much better.

SO IS THERE ANYWHERE TO GET THE NEW ALBUM FOR A REASONABLE PRICE? Otherwise it doesn't really matter how good it is. . . .

Love how "Snow" goes all trace style, wish BBS would do another club/dance record like 7 ignitions. Also how Nine Inch Nails is "things'll will never be the same" sounds like its from The Fragile. Liked the album, however To the loveless is better (even though it never seemed to end).

Ok, Embrace (the song, not the album) just blew me away, I didn't think Michi could still pull off vocals like that. It was truly beautiful. This whole album has surprised me in good ways

Thoughts on the album? Snow was everything Siar said it was. Flutter and Helter Skelter has that old BBS vibe to it, proving they still haven't given up that rock side. Disconnected is just something i know i'm going to love, and Ive only listened to it once! And after waiting almost 12 months to listen to Drifter it was so worth the wait. This may not be the same BBS that I got into, but I still love it
