“Old Time Rock & Roll” is a song that appears on the 1978 album Stranger in Town by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. Released as a single in 1979, it reached #28 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Subsequently it has become a standard in popular music. In 1996 it was ranked number two on the Amusement & Music Operators Association’s survey of the Top 40 Jukebox Singles of All Time, and in 2001 it was listed by RIAA as one of the Songs of the Century.
The song was written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III. Seger says that he rewrote the verses but never took any writing credit.
The song featured in the 1983 film Risky Business, starring Tom Cruise.
There are some who mistakenly think it is a Chuck Berry song as they are thinking of Berry’s 1957 hit single “

Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll
