Lyrics

There is a house down in New Orleans
They call the Risin' Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor girl
And me, oh God, I'm a-one

  • Dylan definitely did this better than Van Ronk
  • I like other versions of Dylan songs more than the originals ("All Along The Watchtower" covered by Hendrix, for instance), but this one (a cover too) is my favorite version of this song.
  • Released on March 19, 1962 the album "Bob Dylan" was Bob's debut album, produced by John H Hammond and called "Hammond's Folly' because it was a commercial flop, only sold about 2500 copies. This is a traditional song arranged for Bob by Dave Van Ronk, one of Bob' mentors.

  • i get bored into a coma from the Animal's version but Dylan's version is perfect

  • The Animals can lick Dylan's shoes [4] as far as this tune goes. There's just something immaculate about his voice on this track...it's so aggressively wistful and absolutely devastating, in the most staggeringly brilliant way possible. And yeah, naysayers, I prefer Dylan to The Animals hands down, but the reason I prefer (understatement) this version to theirs or any other is because, imo, it's just straight up fucking better.
