Love the early Dylan bluesy stuff. All the live albums with this track are worth checking out: The Gaslight Tapes (17 track version), Live at Carnegie Hall, Live at Brandeis University.

Love this song but I don't play it very often. It's just too sad.

Folk music did not require guitar pyrotechnics. It usually had a very simple one chord progression. The lyrics were the mainstay and out front. This is a very poignant song as well as a very sad one. We hear stories today involving events such as Hollis Brown.

Well, I for myself like his monotonous guitar play on this song, in combination with the great lyrics it fits somehow. It creates a nice atmosphere.

I like the lyrics but find the guitar arrangement to be pretty lazy.

Ugh, why does the wrong cover art show up for this one? I'm listening to the The Times They Are-A Changin' album, dammit!

One of my favourite songs! I also love Nina Simone's version!

"Somewhere in the distance there are seven new people born." What does this line mean to you? Is it suggesting a never ending cycle, is it a statement of optimism, or something completely different...

Fantastic song. I've read books by people who've written trilogies attempting to capture this atmosphere and done just as well, but they required 800 pages. Dylan does it in just over 4 minutes.
