Let's hope his prize will serve to set higher standards to contemporary popular music and not to set (even) lower standards to contemporary poetry and literature. Anyway, the prize brings fresh and larger interest on the question: What is a poetry today?
I think this is the very late recognition of the nobel foundation to a whole group of songwriters that were social conscious, that rescued traditional song structures, and most of them really good at it. Artists not only from the USA but also from the entire american continent :)
I don't think so, there are REALLY good songwriters in latinamerica, most of them are dead tho, like Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, Mercedes Sosa, Luis Alberto Spinetta, etc. The few alive are from Brazil, or Silvio Rodriguez from Cuba.
