14 Dec 2009, 17:38 by The_MercianEvery band I've seen live. Some in support slots, a lot at festivals. Some I wish I hadn't seen.
Likelineness that I would go to see each band again:

++ = Not voluntarily but maybe if they are at a festival or something
+ = I have better ways to waste my life
NB: These ratings do not represent my views of the band's albums. Some bands are great in the studio and shit live, others vice versa.

Into The Valley Of The Moonking heißt das neue Album der englischen Melodic Rock-Truppe Magnum.

Let's start with a music video and see if you reach the same first impression as I did, this is Saracen - Love On Sight:
If one of your first thoughts was "Poor man's Queen", you reached a similar first impression to mine. The above was one of three very similar music videos arranged by Neat records circa 1985, admittedly it's probably the softest of the three, and neither my favourite nor least favourite of those three, but let us now turn to the chronological beginning:
Apparently there are two bands from the UK called Saracen. I will only be looking at the better known one of the two.
Saracen, according to metal-archives.com (reference), formed in 1976 in Derbyshire as Lammergier, changing their name in 1980 to Saracen.
The band's recorded career kicked off with a single for Nucleus called No More Lonely Nights (youtube) b/w Rock Of Ages. …

Platz 2 geht an Saints Of Los Angeles von Mötley Crüe.
* Wake The Sleeper von Uriah Heep
* Runnin' Wild von Airbourne
* Black Ice von AC/DC
* Immortal von Bob Catley
* Licht von Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
* Steel of Swabia von Kissin' Dynamite
* Good to Be Bad von Whitesnake
* XV von King's X
* Backyard Babies von Backyard Babies
* Bite the Bullet von Bullet

Tobias Sammet is the singer and sometimes keyboard player with German power metal outfit Edguy, and in his spare time his ropes together a collection of his celebrity rock mates (Alice Cooper, Bob Catley, Rudolf Schenker, Eric Singer, Kai Hansen and Sharen den Adel have all appeared on Avantasia albums) and produces wildly over the top metal opera's. After the first two Avantasia albums (and two 5 track EP's), Sammet said he wasn't doing any more, it's good for us that he changed his mind because The Scarecrow is the best of the lot.
The Scarecrow kicks off with the six minute 'Twisted Mind' a big, Eygyptian sounding riff giving way to great melodies, nice clean vocals and scorching guitar solo's. Over on the continent people never lost their love for proper heavy metal, whilst we got seduced by the largely crap wave of American nu-metal, the Germans and Dutch and Scandanavians continued to…

As this festival was my first big metal action. From the groups which were performing I didn't see a single one live.
Travel and accommodation went well. We put up the tent and went to the concert area. First group I was interested in were the Korpiklaani. Concert was good and as a newbie I became familiar with the local habit of throwing beers into the crowd, luckily I stood behind the firing line. I loved the intro of the group Ministry but the music itself didn't capture me. I used the time to find some food and get ready to the Avantasia, which was my favorite for the Thursday. I heard different critics on the new album so I hoped they will play mostly songs from the Metal Opera. It turns out they did, but we had to wait over an hour to hear them. It seems that Bob Catley had to practice his abused hand gestures :)
The only band I knew that performed Friday was Moonspell, and I heard that Haggard were great. I spent most of the day drinking and eating. …
