Mondeville, France (1994 – present)

Blut aus Nord is a black metal band from Mondeville, France.

The band started in 1994 as a solo project, with Vindsval playing all instruments under the name Vlad. He released two demos under this title before changing the projects name to Blut Aus Nord before the release of Ultima Thulée in 1995. The next three albums were recorded with the aid of session musicians: It is only recently that the group has had any permanent members apart from Vindsval (who also played in The Eye and Children Of Mäani).

The project’s most critically acclaimed release is The Work Which Transforms God, a concept album which - in spite of being mostly instrumental with none of the lyrics made public - is meant to challenge the listener’s prejudices and preconceptions about reality, life and various metaphysical subjects. The Work Which Transforms God has been almost unanimously praised in reviews and was named by Terrorizer Magazine as its number one album of 2003.

Other full length albums from Blut aus Nord include

- Ultima Thulée 1995 (black metal)
- Memoria Vetusta I: Fathers of the Icy Age 1996 (black metal)
- The Mystical Beast of Rebellion 2001 (black Metal)
- The Work Which Transforms God 2003 (Industrial/ambient/black metal)
- Metamorphosis of Realistic Theories 2006 (Industrial, black metal, avant-garde)
- Odinist - The Destruction of Reason By Illumination 2007 (black metal)
- Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue With The Stars 2009 (avant-garde, black metal)

But it's true. Yelling retards could completely murder the experience for other people. It might turn out to be a drinking contest with background music, which is highly disrespectful. Still wouldn't object seeing them live, I just know it is not going to happen.

Granted, I've only been to one WITTR show but it didn't seem like "a stupid beer-sweat-moshing-fest." Even though there are the occasional idiots who try to mosh it's heavily discouraged; I don't think WITTR shows can fairly be described as such.

I also value more those, who remain studio-working, conceptual, making intellectual or spiritual music for intellectual and spiritual purposes, which cannot be surely fully experienced during a live performance, which is almost everytime a feast with loud music in background. If I were a musician with large audience, seeing people feasting while my music is on would make me want to drop a bomb over them all. [2] I agree.

It is perfectly fine as it is. Not everyone wants to "prove" their music on stage. I wouldn't object if they ever decide to go live, but I won't mourn their silent studio-working style either.

Well they have many layers, but only three people. It's doable for sure, but they might have to get somebody to help out with guitars

BaN, as great as they are, aren't some higher form of music that's so transcendental that they cannot be translated to a live setting >>> That's not the point; it could be translated live, but not to the level that he'd want. The ambience, which is a big part of their sound, would be very hard to replicate live. Layering can be achieved with loops and laptops etc, but it's actually synching the whole thing which is extremely difficult. As experienced as Justin Broadrick is, anyone who has seen Jesu live can attest to how disjointed and flat it feels with the laptops and triggers.
