for what seems like aeons now. Finding out that it had leaked was akin to dangling a diamond-encrusted carrot in front of a bling-obsessed donkey. It's still not had it's proper release, but already I think I have my album of the year.
On first listen, it's apparent that this is an album that exists in its own world. There aren't really any standouts, no tracks that shout "I'm a single" or "I should have been left on the studio floor". It reminds me to a certain degree of Cocteau Twins
' better albums, where it's more akin to one mood over several movements rather than a collection of songs. Honestly, you can try dipping in just to listen to one song, but you'll stay longer than you plan to...My Plants Are Dead
is one early favourite. In a similar fashion to Massive Attack
, the track feels both stripped back and minimal, and also luscious and multi-layered at the same time. …
