Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill) (4:53)

Cover of Nightfall in Middle Earth

From Nightfall in Middle Earth and 13 other releases

This song covers the battle between Morgoth and the Noldor king Fingolfin. Filled with wrath and despair when the siege of Angband was broken, Fingolfin rode alone to the gates of Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat. Morgoth had to accept, or face shame in the eyes of his servants. The nimble Fingolfin was able to avoid Morgoth’s blows with his hammer, and wounded the dark lord seven times. But at the last, Fingolfin stumbled on a crater, and was pinned beneath Morgoth’s foot and killed, though not before hewing at Morgoth’s foot in a last act of defiance. Morgoth’s wounds from this battle never healed properly.

One of the most EPIC songs ever created. And not epic in the overused modern sense, I mean to the fullest. I'm totally pumped to grab a sword and shield and go into battle now. [8]

This song almost single-handedly made me a fan of Fingolfin. You can hear his pride, might, sorrow, and despair as he rides into a glorious final suicidal battle, even frightening Morgoth, the master of that silly upstart Sauron that everyone fears later on. Now all we need is some Peter Jackson movies based on Silmarillion stories...
