BLACKSWAN was born in 2005, in Castelo de Paiva, a small village in Portugal. Rui Martelo (vocals and guitars), João Rodrigues (drums) and Filipe Rocha (bass) started the band back then, going against the typical mainstream music played by every other living band in Castelo de Paiva.

After two years of rehearsals and live shows, and still as a three piece, the band finally records the debut EP, entitled “Earthmade”. This recording is here to prove that a lot of dedication and hard work are always worth it.

In February 2009, Max Tomé joins the band fulfilling the lead guitar. The band starts writing new songs and re-writing old ones, with the goal of new gigs and an upcoming release as a full length.

Currently, BLACKSWAN music can be described as modern Thrash Metal mixed with epic Melodic Death Metal, some progressive rhythms, and ambient passages. Lyrically, the band focus on the Human ecological footprint, pollution, and animal rights.

The Black Swan theory (in Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s version) refers to a large-impact, hard-to-predict, and rare event beyond the realm of normal expectations. Unlike the philosophical “black swan problem”, the “Black Swan” theory (capitalized) refers only to events of large consequence and their dominant role in history. Black Swan events may also be called outliers.
