1.) Blackmail is a German indie rock band from Koblenz, Germany which was started briefly in 1993 by singer Aydo Abay, brothers Kurt Ebelhäuser (lead guitars) and Carlos Ebelhäuser (bass) and drummer Mario Matthias. Their style of music usually varied, but mainly consisted of the indie rock genre which was combined with experimentation of electronic music, progressive rock, alternative rock and dance. They have been known for their harsh and high-pitched guitar melodies. — Singer Aydo Abay left the band in late 2008.
2.) There is also a band from New York City named Blackmail, they play funky rock tunes. They are made up of Max P (The Dazzler) - Lead Vocs, Morgan Z - Keytar / Geetar / Drum-Pad / Vocoder, Pablo- Drums, Solomon - Bass.

I've been a fan of Blackmail since they came to Japan for SummerSonic 2004. Really great band, and it's so sad that Aydo left the band.... Is there any possibility of his coming back?

Das alte Blackmail (bis Friend or Foe?) gefall mir viel besser. Die letzten zwei Alben war einfach stinknormales Indie. Es fehlte das gewisse etwas. Ein solches Meisterwerk wie "Science Fiction" wird es von Blackmail wohl nicht mehr geben.

weil sie vom musikalischen standpunkt bis auf die Stimmen keine Ähnlichkeit haben ;) hör dir mal die songs an, Placebo geht in Richtung Pop und Blackmail haben doch sehr oft experimentelle Elemente in ihren Songs. Gerade wenn man die alten Alben, wie Science Fiction und Blackmail anhört, aber auch die neuen Alben sind da wesentlich experimentierfreudiger als es Placebo je waren :D achja, und nein ich habe nichts gegen Placebo, ich seh nur keine ähnlichkeit :D
