• Aplicaciones

1: (2007-12-20 14:51:23): Pantera - War Nerve (Live LP Version)
666: (2008-01-11 10:15:17): Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
    1000: (2008-01-16 16:45:10): Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song (The Hobbit)
2000: (2008-01-30 16:43:30): Blind Guardian - Journey Through The Dark
    3000: (2008-02-13 12:12:05): Konishi Kayo & Kondoo Yukio - Lilium
    4000: (2008-02-28 11:08:36): Rammstein - Spiel Mit Mir
  • Song of The Day - 23 Apr 2009: Locomotive Breath

    8 Jun 2009, 13:59 by sablespecter

    Jethro Tull / Locomotive Breath / Aqualung (10) / Mar 1971

Whether it's been in my reviews and AotY Awards for the 1970s or in threads of other selections from classic 60s/70s artists, I've sometimes been asked about my thoughts on Jethro Tull or advised to check this-or-that out.

Well, it's not that Jethro Tull are completely unknown to me. And certainly not to all metal fans since their "amazing upset" of Metallica for the 1989 (and only) Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Grammy.

Rather, it's just that I don't like them all that much. It has nothing to do with Ian Anderson's flute. (I can accept some flute in "metal" - I like Solitude, anyway...) Maybe it's because the music of Tull references twee subjects that I just don't know much about, and so I can't follow along all that well.

Really, though, it's just that most of their music doesn't really, well, rock all that much. OK, Crest Of A Knave does a little (atypically lots of guitar - and thus maybe the…
  • My Life in Metal; One Metal Album from Every Year I Have Been Alive.

    13 Feb 2009, 23:04 by godemperorofhel

1974 Judas Priest - Rocka Rolla

This album defines the first Not-Sabbath band, Metal begins taking shape as it goes farther away from simple Hard Rock. This is also the year Kiss and Van Halen form.

When I was a kid I was turned away by Judas Priest when I knew they didn't want kids listening to their albums, I rediscovered them much later in life.

    1975 Black Sabbath - Sabotage

Black Sabbath's seminal first five albums have already been released, however it includes one of my favorites, Symptom of the Universe as well as my least favorite, Am I Going Insane (Radio).

    1976 Scorpions - Virgin Killer

Metal begins the long hard road of being stereotyped as controversial, by now Shock Rock by the likes of Alice Cooper and Kiss is in full strenght.

I never listened to Scorpions seriously, when I was discovering Metal their glory days had already passed.

    1977 Motörhead - Motörhead

  • Thirteen songs called 'Solitude'

    4 Jan 2009, 04:54 by godemperorofhel

    13.- Solitude - Black Sabbath

Oh where can I go to and what can I do?
Nothing can please me only thoughts are of you
You just laughed when I begged you to stay
Ive not stopped crying since you went away

The world is a lonely place - youre on your own
Guess I will go home - sit down and moan.
Crying and thinking is all that I do
Memories I have remind me of you

In the middle of the Stoner/Sludge/Doom Masterpiece Master of Reality there is an island of sadness, a place to remind us that the affair with pleasure leads to loneliness. True Metal understands the necessity of being alone, The Metalhead is a lone wolf, hunting alone, suffering alone, but sharing the glory with others.
    Covered by:
    12.- Solitude - Cathedral
Cathedral would go a conventional way in covering the Sabbath masterpiece, every chord, every syllable is where it should be, as correct as it is it might be unnecessary, as this cover adds nothing to the original.
  • Blessedheart's 'Best Albums Of 2007' thing

    3 Aug 2008, 01:19 by Blessedheart

That's right, I'm back with another list of greatness, this time from the year 2007.

Yeah, I know. It's pretty much 2009 now. I don’t always finish jobs in time. Got a problem with that? Fuck you!!!

When Blessedheart sets out to do something, he does it. Eventually.

Last year's (2006) list was tough as I struggled to think of ten albums - live albums, EPs and compilations don't count - worthy of such a lofty accolade as a place in the list. However, this year (2007) was the complete opposite. I have struggled to keep it down to ten because almost every album I have heard from 2007 has been brilliant. I mean, Porcupine Tree's 'Fear of a Blank Planet' didn't even make the final ten. How the hell did that happen? It's an amazing album! Seriously, go and buy it, even if you already have a copy.

    Yes, that does say ‘buy’.

By the way, if anything I state in any of the tedious reviews below offends you, that's your problem, not mine.

  • List of metal ballads which aren't gay

    23 Apr 2008, 14:35 by munchies1

I have a soft spot for metal ballads. I hate the gay cheesy and forced kind like Black Sabbath's Changes or Metallica's notorious Nothing Else Matters but I do enjoy an occasional partly mellow and calming metal song.

So, I want to compose a list of metal ballads which don't suck (please no glam shit that goes under 'ghey'), instrumental dirges also welcomed.

    Here's what I've listed so far :

    Testament -

    The Ballad
    Return to Serenity
    The Legacy
    Trail of Tears
    Musical Death (A Dirge) (instrumental)

    Pantera -

    Cemetery Gates

    Diamond Head -

    Don't You Ever Leave Me

    Megadeth -

    A Tout le Monde

    Metallica -

    Fade to Black

    Mercyful Fate -

    To One Far Away

    Motorhead -

    Iron Maiden - Wasting Love

    Black Sabbath -

    Planet Caravan

    Death -

    Voice of the Soul (instrumental)

    added :

    Heathen -

In Memory Of... < thanks tyecok

    Laaz Rockit -

    The Omen < etc

In Flames - Acoustic Medley (instrumental) <thanks to vermilion666
  • Low-key, dark, and tragic. As we are... Ulver - Shadows Of The Sun

    8 Oct 2007, 21:01 by ScarletGarden

Many of you have been waiting for sound, and we are sorry for the silence. We needed to be alone, without the hustle and bustle of the living. We are uncomfortable with the world, the industry and our place. We have been working, sluggishly, well aware we could end up with nothing. Nonetheless we believe we have succeeded in giving our fears some kind of form. Shadows of the Sun, our 7th full-length album, is finished and will be released October 1st. We feel it is our most personal record to date. Low-key, dark, and tragic. As we are.

    Ulver, Oslo, July 13 2007.

Ulver released 7th album, Shadows of the Sun.. And I get 325 Ulver track plays in first week.

I read a fan's review about the new Ulver album, Shadows of the Sun, he said : Ulver did it again..

Yes they did it again.. As they said Low-key, dark, and tragic.

A pure, deep and dark album.. Sounds from inner worlds.. A perfect Black Sabbath cover (Solitude).. A strange CD cover.. And never ending spell..

    Massive Attack Mezzanine
I originally only bought this album for the song Teardrop but quickly fell in love with the whole album. It's also great that Marillion always play this album before a show…

    Marillion FRC037
One of the best Front Row Club releases. This is from the Los Trios tour (just Steve, Pete & h) and the sound quality is excellent. Great atmosphere.

    Opeth Damnation & Deliverance

    Tool Ænima

    Yes Going for the One
One of the very first albums I ever bought and it's still one of my favourites. Every track is a classic.

    Amplifier Amplifier

    Chris Cornell Carry On
After the disappointment of the last Audioslave album this is Chris back to his best and shows just how limited Audioslave were.

    Gazpacho Night
How many must I say that this is the best album of the year. Ok, one more time. "It's the best album of the year!!"

    Black Sabbath Master of Reality
Continuing my budget price Black Sabbath spending spree. …
