I'm a strict Ozzy loyalist when it comes to Black Sabbath. When I think of them, Ozzy is the first vocalist that comes to mind. Nothing against Dio at all.. I actually haven't even brought myself to listen to Dio fronted Sababth yet.

  • Coivisto

Ramming a fist up my ass = Eating a bucket of nails. Like them both. I really wouldnt mind if someone try's to compare the singers but there is nothing more informative then a equation - Ozzy >< Dio.

black sabbath volume 4 is the roots of all thrash riffs imho..and their best too...

It's not in order of similarity or connection.

    March 2008
  • hurricane_mario

How is Judas Priest more similar than Dio? Blasphemy!

    March 2008
  • BlackSabbath86

Top tracks show that how many people think originall line up is better... - the amount of listeners to Britney Spears is more than people who listen to all line-ups of Sabbath, does that mean she's better than Black Sabbath? Fuck no. Who gives a crap who likes which line-up, people enjoy what they like, nothing they can do about it. Just listen to the damn music and rock out.

Except maybe Sabotage. The term 'criminally underrated' is barely sufficient in that case.

Why is Symptom of the Universe at 30? That's a disgrace! The single most metal song of the seventies. And yes, Master of Reality dumps all over Paranoid. Children of the Grave for the win indeed.

  • munchies1

hand of doom, war pigs, fairies wear boots, iron man, paranoid, so many awesome tracks on paranoid... hard to pick but still.

    February 2008
  • UnaLaguna

Yep, gotta say Master of Reality > Paranoid. Children of the Grave FTW.

  • Zeppelin315

a lot of people just buy paranoid because of it's radio play and do not listen to the other great sabbath albums thats why paranoid is in the top 5 tracks.

    February 2008
  • hangar19

Cross Purposes is a great album too!! people must listen to Martin-led era of sabbath.good stuff.

    February 2008
  • Timppa2000

Why Paranoid is so over-rated !!?

    February 2008
  • PuffShePuff

they got all the attention they deserved in the 70's. nowadays almost all great older bands are underrated, why? because theres no media attention anymore, its all word of mouth. in conclusion, you dont have a point

Oh man, there's a really awesome quality concert video from 1970 floating around the web. A search for Black Sabbath - Live 1970 [352x240 4x3] should find it.

I'm surprised to see Vol 4 below Seventh Star on the Top Albums list That's because people tag it Volume 4, Vol. 4 etc.

onion_rings: Haha what? I dont listen to sabbath 24/7, and how is that related to this anyway? You seriously think that Black Sabbath is underrated? I think they've gotten the popularity and appreaciation which they deserve. Fag?

    February 2008
  • star_shaped_man

For the conversation further down, yes Sabbath are metal pioneers for sure, but check out a band called Blue Cheer from the late 60's. I would say these guys have a sabbathy sound before Sabbath were even formed.

people who debate on whether sabbath is metal, need urgent help. Suck my fuckin balls!! Sabbath = Metal. Nuff said. Sabbath created the whole genre. Go suck this man's balls.

    February 2008
  • MementoMorix0x

Do you really need to ask if they're metal or not? Regardless of who sings in Sabbath at what period, they were always and always will be heavy metal.

I've never seen Black Sabbath as an Heavy Metal band, maybe because I like more the Ozzy-Period than Dio-Period.

metal shapes before sabbath: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida:Iron Butterfly, Think About: The Yardbirds, Helter Skelter: The beatles,Grand Funk Railroad, Mountain, this is a history Man?¿! when you learn... talk about us

    February 2008
  • mavelix

the controversial origin metal is complex, the list can be, more large that sabbath: reference -UFO,Deep purple,AC/DC...etc... it's no ones....

    February 2008
  • munchies1

sure there is, listen to any songs from bands called heavy metal pioneers (deep purple, led zep) then listen to sabbath's hand of doom or war pigs. it's not a little difference, its 180 degrees. everything, the riffs, the atmosphere, the sound, the lyrics. Sabbath is not metal, metal is Sabbath.

    February 2008
  • heman159

maiden formed in 1975.. whereas sabbath in 1968... so yes sabbath were one of the 1s to play heavy met!!

    February 2008
  • sirkenneth

Iron Maiden the first metal band? I've heard people call the hard rock card on Black Sabbath plenty of times, but I think you're forgetting about Judas Priest. Sin After Sin, Stained Class, and Killing Machine all came out before the first Maiden release and they are metal as hell all 3 of them. PS. Black Sabbath is of course still the first metal band ;)

    February 2008
  • mavelix

Maybe that black sabbath influenced to metal riffs, or conceptual ideas of themes of modern metal, but sabbath no invented metal. Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Mercyful fate, Blue oyster cult and Led zeppelin share credits. Other referents interest bands as Nazareth, grand Funk, and Uriah Heep build to metal scena 80´s.
