    Why shouldn't punk be silly? Right from the start it was based in exaggeration. The whole point of the whole punk attitude was that being a transgressive cartoon like Johnny Rotten (as opposed to John Lydon, the man behind the stage persona) liberated you to tell truth in a way that 60's protest song earnestness couldn't.
