WAY better than I expected. Definitely underrated. With this, I have listened to all of Bjork's solo discography, and I have to say... my least favorite, by far, are Debut and Post. (But I still like them!)
this album holds a strong place in my heart. i ran and had to buy it the day it came out. i do understand why people cant quite connect with it. as a teen i really resonated with the messiness / chaos/ and what seems to be a real disconnection from the vocals over the music. i could live without the antony collaboration though. all in all its kinda almost rejects a lot of pop elements and dives into really earthy stuff i dig it though. Wow, talk about something getting better with time. I feel like the context of music in 2007 wasn't kind to this, but listening now, free of that particular moment in time, along with any of her other albums, it's a revelation. I feel like this is almost a pseudo-sequel to Homogenic, in the way that it's a constant contrast of harsh and soft sounds. Hell, Declare Independence almost seems like a close sibling to Pluto, with a similar drill/pillow combination of textures!
Not her best, but I just can't say it's a bad record because it isn't, it's innovative in its own way but it's just too hard for me to get into the sound sometimes.... Wanderlust, Vertebrae by Vertebrae and Pneumonia are one of her best songs tho.
