About this album

Debut, released in July 1993, is an album by Icelandic singer-songwriter/musician Björk. It was her first solo project after leaving The Sugarcubes, but was not her actual debut, as she released the self-titled album Björk in 1977. The record was produced by Nellee Hooper and established Björk’s audience outside of Iceland and cult followings in the UK, U.S. and elsewhere. Sonically, the album is a mix of dance beat-driven pop (“Violently Happy”, “Big Time Sensuality”, “There’s More to Life Than This”), earthy, new age (“One Day”, “The Anchor Song”, “Aeroplane”, “Human Behaviour”), and seductive, rhythm-based songs (“Venus as a Boy”, “Come to Me”). Debut has been certified Platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA and is also featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

In 1998, Q magazine readers voted Debut the 74th greatest album of all time. The album has sold over 3 million copies worldwide. It has also sold 921,000 copies in U.S. according to SoundScan.

7/10 for this stunning debut with Human Behaviour, Venus As A Boy, and Play Dead being the three songs that truly deliver. her producer Nelle Hooper didn't add the most value, though, showcased in many weaknesses in arrangements and instrumentation for this album.

i remember back in the days when i was 13 years old, i travelled 140 km so that i coud buy this album in a record shop in the city. I was enchanted by her music right away! I couden t understand why she wasn t completly satisfied with it (as seen on a interview) but as her music/album evolved i understood she wanted to take it all further, not get stuck and make the same music, she is very bold / daring! not only can you tell by seeing her progress but it s also there in her attitude and voice.

It was back in the 1993. I was 11-12 years old when "Human Behaviour" video first came out. I loved it very much, although I couldn't explain why... It was all so strange and something about it just kept on tingling me. That bear, dark forest, cottage, the bulb, the moth, Bjork herself, trapped in her childish innocence and curiosity, were something totally different back then. Debut is an unbelievable album!

Well, I think Debut is a rare masterpiece, full of 90's joviality and innocence, those beats makes me get in a deep state of bliss, I was just 5 when Debut appeared, I remember my aunt when she was a teenager listening to One Day and Crying whith that ridiculous early 90's clothing. It's funny that Britney Spears' debut album - Baby one more times she appears in the cover of the album like Björk in Debut. As if both were trying to say " I hope u'll like it" and I liked - Britney is pain in arse
