Biography

THROUGH HARD WORK, PASSION OF CRAFT in the writing, playing, and recording of music year after year, and the dedication to working with some of Philly’s finest, Birdie Busch has made her best effort, entitled Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night.

While the group that makes up Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night have toured and recorded a lot together in the past year, this was the first project that allowed them all to devote a week to focused recording, arranging and experimenting.Recorded at Dr. Dog’s studio by suggestion after a Spring 2012 run with them of the Northeast, it was engineered by Nathan Sabatino (Be the Void).

Coming out of what could be called a veritable renaissance that has put Philadelphia back at the top of the list of America’s music capitals with acts like Dr. Dog, War on Drugs, Santigold, Amos Lee,Kurt Vile, and many more Birdie Busch joins other talented locals and partners in crime in creating a tight-knit community that seeks to make great music, inspire people, and bring it to the world.

“Best recording experience ever” says Birdie, “We recorded the band live, with all the instruments leaking and the band just peaking. These guys are all my best friends and I admire them immensely for their lifelong dedication to making music and that’s really what binds us, that unspoken acknowledgment. Everything was happening at once, the feeding off of each others energies, the guitar licks calling and responding, the eye contact, the instantaneous reactionary arrangements.”
The recording shows growth, maturity, and risk taking. It is lush, angular, and muscular. Many moments the band achieves a true rock and roll velocity, transfiguration, and a reaching in, out, and up. There’s lots going on in these recordings and they only seem to reveal more with each listen.
The record immediately was added to rotation at WXPN and has been receiving rave reviews from Philadelphia critics and blogs. David Dye, of World Cafe, bestowed it with World Cafe Next Artist honors. Benji Rogers, CEO of Pledgemusic, has chosen it as his #1 pick of the year.

The band has been sharing the stage in the past few months with favorites such as Junip and Kishi Bashi in a variety of venues. Birdie loves to play in alternate settings such as church sanctuaries and double decker busses, along with the best clubs and theaters in Philadelphia. Along with booking and producing the Philly Opry each year, she can also be found supporting bands as diverse as the GoGo’s and Richard Thompson. She just completed a run of dates in the Northeast as part of the Lindsay Buckingham Appreciation Society, for the third time, and looks to be back in many Northeast towns in support of the new record.
