Bird of Ill Omen was formed in 1996 with Damien Moyal on vocals, Tom Rankine on bass, Joe Simmons and Andrew Logan on guitars and George Rios on drums. the band performed at shows and wrote 5 songs, before replacing Damien with Shane Post and Joe with Peter Bartsocas. The band wrote two more songs and headed in studio to record their debut “Self, Dare You Still Breathe?”. The full-length was released on Eulogy Recordings on CD and Think Tank Records on vinyl. The band toured with Morning Again, and after changed drummer to Jose Flores. The band went back on tour, but cut it short when Jose was kept at the border of Canada, this caused a hiatus. During this period Tom and Andrew formed Dead Men’s Theory, and Pete went to play with As Friends Rust (which Damien and Joe had been doing sicne earlier that year). After some time, the band regrouped with Nahuel Gaune on drums and recorded their ep “When Love Would’ve Shown Interest In Us Both”. It was produced by Jeremy Staska, who was known within the Florida scene for having produce most of the hardcore metal (metalcore) of the area. The CD was put out by Eulogy once again and the 7” by OneDaySavior. The band called it quits shortly after.

    both releases are really good. Self would have to be the more sludgy metalcore album though, while When Love is more chaotic and fast. As far as who wrote the albums, it was the same people for the only exceptions that Damien Moyal wrote lyrics to three songs from Self (which happen to be my three favorite off the album) and that Joe Simmons wrote guitar for those 3. also, Nahuel Gauna played drums on When Love, and IMO he was a more technical drummer. i wish i could of heard how Jose Flores played drums with the bird.

    ya anyone need a good read, www.myspace.com/birdofillomen i wrote that entire bio! flipped almost every unturned stone talking to members. and to pipolin, a total of 4 guys from bird of ill omen have gone on to as freidns rust. damien moyal of course, joe simmons (an early guitarist in the bird) was the guitarist during its whole career, peter bartsocas was a member in late 97 when they first came back, and tom rankine was the bassiust from 2001 til their breakup

    this band is soo amazing! anyone who likes them should check out Dead Men's Theory, which is the post-BOIO band. also check out Target Nevada which had the same drummer.
