Billy Nicholls is a British singer-songwriter. His psychedelic pop album album "Would You Believe?" was conceived as a British response to the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds". Financial problems prevented the album from being released after it was recorded in the 1960s, but since then it has developed a cult following as a lost pop classic.

I slept too long on "Would You Believe"... if this music sounds interesting to you at all, don't hesitate to get it, there is stark beauty there.

Regardless of Andrew Loog Oldham's original, Pet-Sounds-obsessed intentions, I think Would You Believe has a sound and merit of its own. And personally I think it's above anything the Beach Boys ever did, but that might just be me. A shame that such a great album was conceived over silly "responses". Takes a lot of merit out of Nicholls' work, which is all the more impressive when you consider he was still a teenager when he finished it.
