Scandinavian Skies (5:58)

Cover of The Nylon Curtain

From The Nylon Curtain and 4 other releases

I remember at the release of ‘Nylon Curtain’ he had some criticism of plagiarizing The Beatles, but in retrospect the style is obviously more homage and any how this particular track is more ELO than John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Joel once tried heroin, and the result was the song “Scandinavian Skies” from the 1982 album, The Nylon Curtain. He said he only did it once in the late ’70s in Amsterdam. “It got me so high, I didn’t know how to deal with it,” he said. “It scared me.

If billyjoelfan.com is anything to go by, Billy never played Oslo. Therefore he must have made the story up. (I'll agree the song is not his finest hour, but the strings are killer.)

Does anyone happen to know what inspired the lyrics to this song?

This is the most Beatles-sounding song I've ever heard that wasn't actually by the Beatles.
