Almost impossible to decide between Big Star's first two records but, I think this might be my favorite.

Released when Led Zeppelin, ELP, and Elton John were packing stadiums around the world, "Radio City" was a breath of fresh air that was influenced by records that were already a bit of an anachronism. Somehow they made a masterpiece that stands the test of time; a beacon of things to come twenty years later.

If Big Star's posthumous legend was made by their fractured third album, the songs to sustain it were to be found on Radio City, their second. September Gurls alone was enough to inspire a thousand powerpop imitators. The band's leader, Alex Chilton, has more or less disowned it. But what would he know? -- The Guardian.
