I can't say enough good things about this album. I would say that there will never be an album as good as this released ever again, but, Racecar is Racecar Backwards was released the following year. These two albums though. They'll never EVER be touched.
"The Vertigo of Bliss" is one of my favourite albums ever - but listening to anything else Biffy Clyro have done is like having liquid shit poured in my ears.
For me, their other material divides too neatly into production line indie rock bollocks or tuneless prog-rock bollocks. Yet this album is pretty much perfect. It's as surprising as if, say, Jeffrey Archer had managed to turn out "The Great Gatsby" in between writing "First Among Equals" and "A Tale of Honour".
VoB has two stinkers on it if you ask me - With Aplomb and Questions and Answers. But then it has, for me, the best 3-track sequence of any Biffy LP: Eradicate, Faction and Toys. Piss poor sub-Feeder wimp-rock one minute, sublime the next. It's the Biffy way.
Aye Stu...definitely their best album, and probably my favourite album ever. Let's hope for a return to the Biffy of old after Puzzle, eh? Not that I'm saying it was a terrible album; more that, when it's compared to their older stuff, it's a bit of a step backwards.
Obtuse, maybe, but it's fantastic stuff. Also, just found a poster for the album art here: http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?CID=B7997CF2CA8042C7986B63F3B69D76E0&startat=http%3A//www.allposters.com/GetPoster.asp%3FAPNum%3D836171%26CID%3DB7997CF2CA8042C7986B63F3B69D76E0%26PPID%3D1%26search%3Dmanara%26f%3Dt%26FindID%3D0%26P%3D1%26PP%3D1%26sortby%3DRD%26cname%3D%26SearchID%3D
