Run the World (Girls) (3:56)

Beyoncé’s first single from her fourth solo album was this club track, which samples the martial drum beat from dancehall duo Major Lazer’s 2009 track, “Pon De Floor”. Diddy Dirty Money’s “Ass On The Floor” also borrowed from the same song.

Still according to the Run The World (Girls) Songfacts, The-Dream wrote the lyrics for this women’s empowerment anthem. They find Beyoncé singing the praises of ladies who are “smart enough to make these millions/ Strong enough to bear the children/ Then get back to business.” It follows other girl-power anthems recorded by the Texan songstress such as Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) and going back to her Destiny’s Child days, Independent Women Part 1.
