Bethlehem is a band from Grevenbroich, Germany, formed in 1991 by Jürgen Bartsch and Kläus Matton. Before begetting Bethlehem, Bartsch and Matton used to play in a German thrash metal band called Morbid Vision. Much of the themes in their lyrics revolve around sickness, morbidity, suicide, death and madness that may to some extent be personal to the band, though they are very difficult to understand even for German speakers because they make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

  • [...]We're not certain yet how many songs will be put on the album and how many on the bonus CD for the premium pack. The bonus CD also will contain a very special sort of "pearl" which will be accounted for by the anniversary. Please don't get us wrong, it's not cos we don't love you any longer - we still do - but these days we're more focused on ourselves and won't walk abroad the www too often. The usual rumour/gossip/blah blah machine is in steam - no comment needed anyways. Instead we're going to continue our thing we have started back in 1991 just to prove all of 'em wrong who already many times labeled us dead or just wish us hell. eternally yours - bethlehem
  • Statement on their FB Page: Hello friends of the one and only bethlehem facebook band profile around ! 2016 is a special year for us cos it's our 25th band anniversary. It has been a long(er) journey to here but there you go. We'd been pretty busy in the last months and have created 11 new songs, all pre-produced and ready for rehearsal. Dunno how to say it but after all the studio experiments of the past 10 or so years it's pure fun acting like a real band again. The bunch of friends we already were in the early days. The music itself is harsh, loud, fast, faster, sinister, sick, weird, heavy, downtuned, melancholic, ...pure darkmetal the way it's meant in 2016 - not 1991. No worries guys, you won't be disappointed. Promised. Be certain we haven't lost honesty and still do it our way. Like always. These new songs are reflecting nothing but our heart & soul. Period. In May/June the album will get recorded/produced at the Studio E in Germany which guarantees a killer sound[...]
  • Yeah a pity you don't like them, because they shit on almost every other DSBM band. [4]

  • @KrystallSjel: Betlehem shouldn't be tagged as depressive black metal. Some tracks might be, but it's more experimental black metal. Every album is completely different as other artists form the band.
  • Tried hard to like them. There simply is no possible way.
  • I am a HUGE fan of depressive black metal. Hypothermia, Sterbend, When Mine Eyes Blacken, Beyond Light, ..And End, Through The Pain, Wedard, Silencer, Drowning The Light, Cuckoo's Nest-all great bands who push the envelope vocally and musically and can be a shock to ears that are not tuned in and trained to fathom that kind of monotonous, repetitive, vocally intense style of music. But this..... Bethleham is a truly horrible, uninspiring shit stain on the metal scene. Fucking garbage!!! I tried really hard
