Santa Cruz, San Jose CA, United States (1994 – present)

Bethany Curve is a band from Santa Cruz, California. The band was formed in 1994, just as the first generation British bands such as Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Lush began to dissolve and disappear, Bethany Curve was one of many American post-shoegazers to take its influences into a new darker element. Their trademark sound, best experienced live, is equally as bass laden as it is it filled with haunting echoes of spacey delay. Singer and Guitarist Richard Millang’s song structures are written like story lines that contain many different haunting verses and deep choruses surrounded by bridges that never repeat. Even today Bethany Curve is continuing their trademark motto of

“Atmosphere | Arrangement | Sound | Layering | Noise”

Bethany Curve is still very active, currently working on their 7th full-length record as of 2011 called Murder. The band derived it’s name from a short street called Bethany Curve near the cliffs of the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz. Richard Millang originally disliked it because it sounded similar to bands like Catherine Wheel.

It's basically been over ten years since Flaxen, still no "Murder!", unsurprisingly. We've had MBV finally release a new album, and even Slowdive reformed to play some gigs since then, two things everyone was sure would never happen. What next, LSD And The Search For God will come back as well? Wouldn't shock me at this rate. As for David, I've nothing against the guy, since this is all out of his control with Richard being the leader and all, but I'm sure this won't happen (releasing demos to the Facebook.) I really just think that Richard doesn't give a shit about the band anymore, for this to be put on the backburner for such a long time.

Can't believe Slowdive reunited before BC release "Murder" :-) Just coming home from the London Slowdive gigs and still in a trance...

I sent a mail about "Murder!", and David's answer is: "we still intend to release it sometime in the future, though, I can’t say when that will be. I may have, at least, talked Richard into releasing a couple of unfinished “demo” songs from the album in the near future. If this were to happen, we will upload the songs to our facebook page."

Also, has anyone ever been able to find any BC interviews? I found some guy's blog and he'd made a post where he mentioned BC, and that he'd interviewed them once, but he didn't post the interview itself. Other than that I've never seen anything.

Now if only they would play somewhere in the US other than Chicago. My faves are Silver, Walk in and Fourteen.
