The Takacs Quartet album is indeed wonderful, particularly the third (and best!) quartet. I love the pace they play at; it's much more fulfilling than the recording by the Britten Quartet, which feels a bit too slow when I listen to it now. I will never tire of the Passacaglia from that quartet.

The Takács Quartet album is indeed superb. I was just listening to the third string quartet. They play it at a brisker pace than most others I'm familiar with, and it sounds amazing during the Passacaglia. I can never get enough of it, and I cannot think of any other post-war composition that is so evocative and beautiful. Hyperion is such a good label.
