Biography

Dallas, United States (1991 – 1998)

Bedhead was a band from Dallas, Texas active in the 1990s (1991-1998). Their first album, WhatFunLifeWas, is often cited on critics’ lists as one of the best indie albums of the 1990s. Bedhead’s music was generally subdued, with a polyphonic sound based on the interlocking of single-line melodies played by three electric guitars and one electric bass guitar (often played with a capo), nearly always using clean (undistorted) tones. The group’s vocals were often delivered in such a low key manner that they were quite difficult to decipher. This unusual sound was dubbed by some critics as “slo-core,” referring to the slow tempos of many of the band’s songs, a label to which band members objected in interviews. In reality, many of the group’s songs do not remain slow and quiet throughout, instead beginning very slowly and quietly and gradually building in intensity and volume. Bedhead also experimented with unusual time signatures, with some songs in 6/8 or 3/4 meter.

Maybe Numero Group will reissue the Bedhead discography as a boxset, like they did with Codeine? And maybe they'll tour to promote it! One can hope... I prefer this project so much more to The New Year.

iamsotired: the difference between 6/8 and 3/4 can be less significant than you think. Both swing on the down beat, both break into three, and both can be used for waltzes. Doesn't mean a lot of bands use it to write, but it's not so different.

The problem is probably that even if they "run out of money" I can't imagine that a reunion tour with bedhead would generate a abundant surpluss of cash for them. Let's just hope the brothers realize that their work with The New Year, even though that moniker also has it's moment, is vastly inferior.

I hope they do a reunion tour like all these other old broken up bands. Would consider going to the US just to see them.
