The first single to be released was “Gila”. Following the release of Devotion, Beach House released the 7” single “Used to Be” on October 21, 2008 via Carpark Records. TD (especially) and Bloom are great but they also lost some part of their distinctive laziness and minimalism there, "devotion" is still a great and accomplished thing without weaker spots (I also love that it gets sort of better in the second half)

Even after the masterpiece of Bloom this still hits the spot.

I tried to listen to this one, but the sound is so poor compared to Teen Dream and Bloom.

It's such a ick-kitsch, old 70s op-shoppy feel, which is basically what Devotion sounds like anyway on musical terms. Old pawn shop keyboard, 60s reissue Silvertone/Dano guitar, a goddamn ECHOPLEX and tape delay/reverb, the 60s beachy guitar twangs and slides. The whole thing oozes that old-school vibe, which is why I love the album cover and how it embraces that. And yeah, d-a-i-s, I get you! When I first saw the artwork for Bloom I was kind of upset, it'd be so shit if they hadn't have made it glow-in-the-dark.

I think the album cover is nice. I love the warm tone it creates although it is a bit squashed. The Bloom cover is way terrible

People who don't like the album cover, explain! I never quote in shoutboxes but that's just said well: "I think it really captures the album's feel and sound: the warm colour palette and how both Victoria and Alex are sitting down to a "romantic dinner"... THE ONLY THING I HATE ABOUT THIS COVER IS THE FACT THAT I HAVE IT ON CD!

Fair points, but there are WAY worse album covers. You can't tell me its a worse cover than this: http://ranqit.com/viewimage.aspx?img=img*2567*memb*261*

There are also countless that were shitterrible. The only thing I don't like about this cover is that it's squashed just a bit. I love the rest. It's so personal.

Ha ha! "Tasteless!"? I'll forgive you as you're only 20 and likely have zero recollection of album art of the 80's, 90's. Actually, no. I won't forgive you.

I don't see how this album cover is so bad. I think it really captures the album's feel and sound: the warm colour palette and how both Victoria and Alex are sitting down to a "romantic dinner" (hence where "Devotion" comes into play) with vintage cutlery, crockery, etc. that really embodies that homely lo-fi sound. I love it. 5/5 album, too. Definitely worth the 2.2k+ plays in my library.
